During the last years painting has continued its course in permanent metamorphosis, adapting to the times, reviving from its previous deaths, stripping itself of accessories, undressing and even disappearing. A part of this process has focused on the mechanisms of production; the other, has been accompanied by an intense reflection that goes beyond painting and meditates on the status of image.

CARMELO ARDEN QUIN’S PAINTINGS AND TRANSFORMATIONS

Buenos Aires - The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes inaugurated the exhibition "Carmelo Arden Quin, in the plot of constructive art", which offers an overview of the Uruguayan master's production through a hundred works from different periods of his career, exhibited along with pieces by colleagues with whom he forged links and joined artists groups. Curated by Cristina Rossi and open until November 20.

Welcome to the fascinating world of kinetic art! The Espace Monte-Cristo, the Parisian headquarters of the Fondation Villa Datris-Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, presents to celebrate its fifth anniversary "Cinétique! La sculpture en mouvement" (Kinetic! Sculpture in movement). The staging of this exhibition allows us to discover the creations of 25 French and international artists; kinetic sculptures from the 60s to the present mixing historical and scientific references. Static, dynamic or mechanical, these works play with our perception and evolve according to our movements. A colorful, sonorous, rhythmic and moving journey opens up before us.

AN AVANT-GARDE IN LOCAL COLORS - ONCE UPON A MODERN TIME

On the occasion of the centenary anniversary of the 1922 Modern Art Week, a key event for the artistic avant-gardes in Brazil and which consolidated what would become known as modernism in the country, several exhibitions throughout the year (and also in 2021) revolved around, discussed, explained, replaced and 'cancelled' such an initiative. Considered a milestone in the cultural renewal of Brazilian art, the week was about to turn around in its already canonical grave.

Brodsky and José Falconi, the exhibition brings together works by over 25 artists from Latin America and its diaspora, from the 9th Century BCE to the present. Grouped around themes of cosmology, magic, and non-Western forms of knowledge, Elsewhere(s) seeks to reflect on the traditional role of artists and their potential to envision alternative societies as utopian or reclaimed territories.

A REFLECTION ON THE HISTORY OF MODERN ART IN ARGENTINA – BIENALSUR AT MUNTREF

“Pistas” (Clues would be the literal translation), inaugurated on October 27th at the MUNTREF Artes Visuales Sede Caseros I, in Buenos Aires, is an exhibition that brings together works from the collections of the Emilio Pettorutti Provincial Museum of Fine Arts and the MUNTREF. The exhibition, curated by Diana Wechsler, seeks to trace some historical-artistic journeys of 20th century Argentina, and includes works by such prominent artists as the Argentineans Emilio Pettorutti, Antonio Asís, César Paternosto, Alfredo Gramajo Gutiérrez, Ennio Iommi, Juan Melé, Pablo Páez, Javier Plano, Alejandro Puente, Víctor Rebuffo, Carlos Sessano, Clorindo Testa and Daniel Santoro, the Italians Juan Del Prete and Líbero Badíi, the Spanish Pompeyo Audivert and the German Anne-Marie Heinrich, among others.

Casa Triângulo exhibits Antonio Henrique Amaral: Pelo Avesso, Antonio Henrique Amaral's first exhibition at the gallery, curated by Pollyana Quintella and Raphael Fonseca. Multiple and polyphonic, Antonio Henrique Amaral (1935 - 2015) endeavored to create a body of work that would resist univocal meanings. His more than six decades of production have drawn a multifaceted path that has been the subject of recent revisions through essays and monographic exhibitions that place the artist beyond his iconic and emblematic Bananas, made between 1968 and 1975.

SIGNS, ABSTRACTIONS & METAPHORS AT THE JUAN CARLOS MALDONADO ART COLLECTION

Curated by Ariel Jiménez, this exhibition is where abstract-geometrical and concrete artists such as Lygia Clark and Tomás Maldonado engage in dialogue with those of artists who, while bordering abstraction, or even clearly abstract in nature, such as Julio Alpuy, Martín Blaszko and César Pasternosto, still bestow their works with a metaphorical and/or symbolic dimension that they consider to be essential. It is also an opportunity to discuss concepts that are not always well-comprehended, such as the difference between geometric abstraction and concrete abstraction, or between works that, while geometric, can work in a radically different manner; some with the plastic autonomy sought by the concrete artist, and others integrating a metaphoric dimension that many Latin American artists consider to be fundamental in maintaining the ties that bind them to the history of the continent.

MODERNITIES IN MOVEMENT - TARSILA, DI CAVALCANTI AND THE GOMIDE-GRAZ FAMILY

The narratives of the Brazilian avant-garde in the arts go through an intense revision. Due to the centenary of the Week of 22, the emblematic event that in the thesis launched the foundations of modernity through different languages​​and fields of activity in the country, three exhibitions currently on the billboard rotate and bring new elements from the production of two icons of Modernism in Visual Arts - Tarsila Do Amaral (1886-1973) and Di Cavalcanti (1897-1976). In addition, they cast more emphatic lights on three not-so-famous characters within the journeys within the movement and the modernist winds: Antonio Gomide (1895-1967), John Graz (1891-1980) and Regina Gomide-Graz (1897-1973) .
