OPEN CALL FOR THE MONTEVIDEO INTERNATIONAL FULLDOME FESTIVAL 2026
The event’s first edition invites artists and collectives from around the world to submit immersive 360° audiovisual works, to be presented in the dome of the Agrónomo Germán Barbato Planetarium. Application deadline: February 1, 2026.
The Montevideo International Fulldome Festival launches its inaugural edition, welcoming artists and collectives worldwide to present immersive audiovisual works in fulldome format. The festival will take place from April 10 to 12, 2026, at the Agrónomo Germán Barbato Planetarium in Montevideo, Uruguay—a historic venue recently restored and equipped with advanced digital technology, 8K projection, and 5.1 surround sound.
Participation is free of charge and open to proposals that explore immersive 360° audiovisual narrative formats, with no stylistic limitations. The application deadline is February 1, 2026, and selected works will be announced on February 23.
The award for Best Work is USD 1,000, along with additional prizes for Uruguayan and Latin American artists. Magma Futura will grant a special award for Best Uruguayan Work, which includes an exhibition at its immersive space in Montevideo between March and May 2027. For the production or adaptation of the work, Magma Futura will provide the winner with USD 600.
Selected pieces will be screened in the planetarium’s dome, equipped with six laser projectors within an immersive audiovisual environment. The festival will award USD 1,000 for Best Work, as well as other prizes such as Best Fulldome Innovation, Best Immersive Audio, and special recognitions for Latin American, Uruguayan, and emerging artists.
Some awards will be offered by international and Uruguayan partners, including The Node Institute (Germany), Magma Futura (Uruguay), Blendy Dome VJ (Brazil), and others to be announced.
An international jury composed of artists and professionals from the immersive arts and fulldome fields will oversee the selection process. The jury includes Line Katcho (composer and media artist, Canada), Barbara Weinmann (technical and digital animator, Argentina), Lynn Tomlinson (director and animator, United States), Julian Medina (curator and digital visual artist, Colombia), Brian Mackern (new media artist, developer, and designer of digital and hybrid networks, Uruguay), and Valentina Montero (curator and researcher in media arts, Chile). Each member brings a distinct perspective, contributing to a multidisciplinary evaluation of the submitted works.
