CARLOS GUINZBURG IN BUENOS AIRES: AN ODE TO SUSTAINABILITY, SCIENCE AND ART
Almost 51 years after the inauguration of an artwork that extolled communication and symbiosis between non-human living beings, science has now come to reinforce and update artistic concepts, with the reversion of an exhibition by the renowned Argentine artist Carlos Ginzburg. The conceptual and theoretical artist returned to Buenos Aires with the exhibition "MYCORHIZES: Trees communicate with each other through an ecological internet formed by the root-fungus symbiosis". The exhibition takes place within the framework of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South (BIENALSUR 2021), and can be visited at the MUNTREF Sede Hotel de Inmigrantes, kilometer 0 of the international biennial that emerged at the University of Tres de Febrero in Argentina and is held in 50 cities around the world.
THE BEAUTY OF DANGER AS STIMULUS – NAN GONZÁLEZ IN PINTA CONCEPT

A FIRE OFFERING BY DESIRÉE DE RIDDER, ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT COLLECTIVE62
Designed as an immersive dining experiment in Miami, A Fire Offering is curated by Sofia Bastidas. This installation and performative object art is part of the Collective62’s interest in creating a collective space that foments creative reflection among its residents.
JORGE PARDO’S EXHIBITION AT THE MUSEUM OF ART AND DESIGN, MIAMI
Titled Mongrel, this site-specific installation transforms MOAD’s largest gallery into a dynamic interior that evokes domestic space and the artist’s early experiences as a Cuban refugee. A series of twenty-five new drawings created expressly for this exhibition meld a wide variety of images into arresting abstractions of pulsing color and form, while still occasionally revealing their representational sources.
TWO EXHIBITIONS AT JUMEX THAT REFLECT ON HEAT AS A TRANSITIONAL AXIS
Until February 13th, 2022, Museo Jumex will present two exhibitions in dialogue; the solo show Sofía Táboas: Gama térmica (Sofía Táboas: Thermal Range), organized by Kit Hammonds, Curator in Chief, and Colección Jumex: Temperatura ambiente (Jumex Collection: Ambient Temperature), curated by the artist Sofía Táboas.
FROM TRAGIC ARCHIVES, CONTEMPORARY ART
Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma exhibits “The Archive of Dust: An Ongoing Project”, an exhaustive overview of the fundamental lines that characterize Elena del Rivero’s (Valencia, 1949) work gravitating around the attacks of the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001, in New York. The project deals with loss, the collective memory and pain, as well as with the construction of the existential pillars that make up the beliefs and values of society to rethink the future.
BIENALSUR INTERVENES THE GERMAN EMBASSY IN BUENOS AIRES
The work of Carola Zech, Argentinian artist of German descent, arrived, starting September 25th, at the German Embassy in Buenos Aires. A site-specific intervention, “Al azar del viento” (At the wind’s random will) is curated by Diana Weschler, also of German descent, and can be visited until November 28th as part of BIENALSUR 2021’s expositions.

KIMSOOJA AND BIENALSUR: THE NOMAD EXPERIENCE OF THREE EXHIBITIONS
The acclaimed Korean artist Kimsooja will inaugurate on Wednesday September 22nd the last part of her trilogy of simultaneous exhibitions through which she landed in Buenos Aires. Chapter 3: Kimsooja. An inner experience arrives at the Korean Cultural Center in the Argentine capital as a part of Bienalsur 2021, the biennial that emerged at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero and that now takes place simultaneously in more than 124 venues, 23 countries and 50 cities around the world, with the participation of about 400 artists.
L'ARC DE TRIOMPHE, VICTIM OF ART
By next Saturday, September 18, visitors will be able to view Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s completed artwork L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, Paris, 1961-2021. In accordance with Christo’s wishes, the artwork is being completed by his team in partnership with the Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN) and with the support of the Centre Pompidou and the City of Paris.
FROM SAUDI ARABIA TO BUENOS AIRES: MUHANNAD SHONO IN BIENALSUR
The Saudi artist presents his work for the first time in Argentina in the framework of BIENALSUR 2021. Under the curatorial axis Politics of art, his solo exhibition “Silence still inhabits us” opened at the MUNTREF Sede Hotel de Inmigrantes. Its curator, Diana Wechsler, states that this exhibition reflects on the memory of culture and language, and surprises with a strongly poetic installation about words. Muhannad Shono's production includes intimate drawings, large-scale sculptures, and robotic and technological pieces, with a personal style characterized by versatility and disinhibition.
“OLGA DE AMARAL: TO WEAVE A ROCK” AT THE HOUSTON MUSEUM
Olga de Amaral has pioneered her own visual language within the fiber arts movement. Her radical experimentation with color, form, material, composition, and space transforms weaving from a flat design element into an architectural component that defies the confines of any genre or medium.
ART AND ECOLOGY: BIENALSUR IN CUENCA, ECUADOR
BIENALSUR 2021, the third edition of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South, opens in Cuenca, Ecuador, the exhibition Juliana Vidal. The Silence of Forms in the Municipal Museum of Modern Art. Vidal (Cuenca, Ecuador, 1993) has been developing a subtle poetics of the imprint - intimately linked to time and memory - using alginate, a chemical substance sensitive to the impression of physical signals. The renowned writer and curator Cristóbal Zapata, who directed the Cuenca Art Biennial, joins BIENALSUR to curate this necessary and intelligent exhibition.
CONTEMPORANEITY OR FICTION? BIENALSUR INAUGURATES “LITERATURE OF THE SELF”
It’ll be the third time that BIENALSUR comes to the Brazilian embassy in Buenos Aires, in the imposing Pereda Palace. Starting September 8th, Paula Parisot, the Rio-born artist, will be presenting her exhibition Literatura del yo (“Literature of the self”), curated by Argentinian María José Herrera.

“EL ATAJO”. A DISPLACEMENT IN THE AUTHOR
José Luis Landet has been searching for the image of the Latin American landscape for years. And in El Atajo (The Shortcut), the exhibition that he presents in Marco, he finds some ways of approaching that idea. He builds ramps, connects vestiges, shreds colors, traces identikits, joins random images, creates an alphabet ... and ends up building a total idea of our landscape, but above all of another subject that also haunts him: the painting. There is a large installation, a physical shortcut, and a set of 467 works that point to something that is clear in the subtitle: a displacement in the author.
COMMONER FANTASIES - BIENALSUR IN THE MUSEUM OF DECORATIVE ART OF BUENOS AIRES
The Museum will be the first institution in the Argentine capital to inaugurate an exhibition within BIENALSUR 2021 on August 27. The artists Luciana Lamothe (Argentina), Gabriel Baggio (Argentina), Emil Finnerud (Norway) and Mehryl Levisse (France) exhibit under the curatorship of Leandro Martínez Depietri. The exhibition, on the curatorial axis Politics of art, will be open until October 24.

JULIANA CERQUEIRA LEITE EXHIBITS IN HER KIND AT SARGENT’S DAUGHTERS GALLERY NEW YORK
The Brazilian sculptor explores the materiality of the human body and what it means to be human through her work in the group exhibition Her Kind. The show takes its title from the iconic and unsettling poem by American poet Anne Sexton. The works on view blend and warp pre-existing materials, transforming them into uncanny, anthropomorphic presences.
DATING APPS AND ARMED CONFLICT - INÉS MOLDAVSKY EXHIBITS AT THE GALERIA MUNICIPAL DO PORTO
Curated by Guilherme Blanc, Wall is the result of an invitation made to the Argentinian-Israeli artist Inés Moldavsky to revisit and expand, in an installation context, her film The Men Behind the Wall, Golden Bear winner at the Berlinale in 2018. In this filmic work a dating app is used to create a set of conversations and personal meetings with Palestinian men living in the Gaza strip and the West Bank.
OTHER POSSIBLE WORLDS
Is a visual manifesto possible? How to show the possible dialogues between art and education? How many images are within each image? How many words are in each word? What's in between? With these questions, the Argentine artist Marina De Caro introduces us to her exhibition Tierra de las emociones perdidas (Land of Lost Emotions), at the Ruth Benzacar gallery in the city of Buenos Aires, which brings together her most recent production.
ORIGINS, VIOLENCE AND LIMITS AT THE MONA HATOUM EXHIBITION IN VALENCIA
The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (IVAM) exhibits works by the British artist of Palestinian origin after she was awarded the Julio González Prize 2020 by the Generalitat Valenciana. REGINA SILVEIRA: “I ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD THAT EACH REPRESENTATION OF THE REAL IS PURE ARTIFICE, CODED AND CULTURALIZED”
The Brazilian artist Regina Silveira has a long career in which she tries to explore different notions of reality through her work with lights, shadows and distortions. In her five decades of artistic work, she has dealt with themes and explored media that tie in with her idea. "I choose the medium that best solves my intentions, and then I look for the skills and technical resources to make the work feasible, focusing on being a non-specialist in any medium." The artist exhibited in Europe and the American continent, much of her work is in public collections such as the Reina Sofía museum.
HOW FAR IS FAR? - NO LUGAR EXHIBITS "A CIRCLE CALLED ZERO"
The Ecuadorian gallery presents A circle called zero, a solo exhibition by David Rickard (New Zealand/UK) curated by Rubén Darío Díaz Chávez. The proposal brings together works in painting, objects, installation, sculpture, video and photography and reflects on the territory, its representation and how we relate to each other in times of pandemic.
MATEO LÓPEZ MANIPULATES FORM AND SPACE IN “HESITANTE” – GALERÍA LUISA STRINA
In this exhibition, the Colombian artist presents ten works in different media: drawing, video, sculpture, and installation. These explore the idea of play, movement and activation of the exhibition space.
TERENCE GOWER ON MEXICAN MODERNISM THROUGH ARCHITECTURE, INSTALLATION AND VIDEO
The Good Neighbour, the Canadian artist’s solo show in Americas Society, is focused on his relationship with Mexico since the early 1990s. The exhibition offers an overview of his work from his arrival in Mexico City in 1993 to his involvement with the city’s bustling international art scene, dubbed the “multinational Mexican underground” by Olivier Debroise.
ESPEJO QUEMADA – DONNA HUANCA’S EXPERIMENTAL INSTALLATION AT BALLROOM MARFA
The artworks draw on visual, cultural, and mythological cues informed by feminism, decolonialism and the artist’s personal and familial histories, while simultaneously engaging with the biodiversity, geology, and dark skies of Far West Texas. The sky was particularly striking for Huanca–animated with cosmic and extraterrestrial forces while also revealing the natural rhythms of the sun and moon.
