GABRIELA AYZA ASCHMANN: HER CALL TOWARDS WILD (LIGHT)

The Spanish-German artist Gabriela Ayza Aschmann (Cologne, Germany, 1991) presents in Tomas Redrado Art a series of paintings created in 2022, as an experience of inquiry into the expanded borders of portraiture that strengthens her. It is a sustained practice that she carries out advancing against the background of the history of the avant-garde, but above all she acts as if she were tearing pages from her own life, to add them to art.

The banal brilliance of a chromatic automotive cover in what could have been the label of a crumbling and volatile language typical of large urban agglomerations, in a tenuous cross between street art and graffiti.

The question I propose is not theoretical, but of a practical nature, since many decisions depend on its answer: which exhibitions to visit? what works to see? which artists to recommend? With these initial questions come others, also important, although not easy to answer: how much information is needed to be up to date? where can you get up-to-date information? Who has the news of the day?

‘EL CHICO' LABORATORY OF THE NEW GENERATION - INTERVIEW WITH JAVIER APARICIO

Located on the border between La Latina and Embajadores neighbourhoods, inside a 60’s trade complex, El Chico is one of the main spaces of the emerging scene that is occupying Madrid’s centre. Space is just a general and practical nomenclature. Founder and director Javier Aparicio (Mexico 1985) explains that the limits of this project are not that important, but if we insist on defining it: "El Chico is, for now, a Podcast with a space," he explains. "The podcast has become an approximation tool for visitors.”

Mexican artist, Teresa Margolles, transfers the space of death to the sphere of art, a metaphor par excellence of the border, of a limit that paradoxically is reached only when we are no longer and, therefore, we will no longer be able to tell it. An attempt to counter addiction and impotence in the face of daily tragedies such as gender violence or the exploitation of illegal immigration, caused by the inaction of governments and by a melodramatic or sensationalistic media exploitation.

Emerson Dorsch presents Alchemic Chants/ Reliquias Fragmentadas, Yanira Collado’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. A platform nearly covers the gallery floor, while objects and paintings punctuate the slim corridor around it. The platform echoes the footprint of a small house, one for living and for working.
