PINTA LIMA 2025: A GREAT MEETING OF CONTEMPORARY LATIN AMERICAN ART

Panama is preparing to become the epicenter of regional art with the first edition of Pinta Panama, May 21-25, 2025. At an effervescence moment for the local artistic ecosystem, the fair seeks to consolidate the Panamanian scene, promote the circulation of artists and create a meeting space for the artistic currents of Central and South America. Emiliano Valdes, general curator of the project, shares his vision of Panama's potential as a cultural connection point.

Pinta is launching Panamá Art Week in 2025 –May 21 to 25–, an initiative created to foster the integration of the art scene and strengthen and consolidate best practices within the sector.

The fair has officially announced the opening of applications for exhibiting galleries interested in participating in this edition. The application deadline is May 15, 2025.

For 66 days, the exhibition will spread throughout the city, bringing together works by 76 artists from different regions of the world, focusing on exchanges between various social contexts and artistic languages as a way to explore the multiplicity of experiences between art and life.

CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean – and Pinta, an international platform for promoting Latin American art through fairs and artistic circuits across the region, have formalized a strategic alliance aimed at strengthening and promoting Latin American and Ibero-American art worldwide. This collaboration will culminate in a prominent Art Week to be held in Panama City in May 2025, a new initiative designed to position regional culture on the global stage.

Textile artist Martha Le Parc passed away in Paris at the age of 88, surrounded by her children and her first husband, the iconic kinetic artist Julio Le Parc. Despite having been separated for decades, they spent their final days together at the American Hospital in the French capital after battling a severe lung infection.

The event will bring together, for the first time, 24 art galleries and projects from different cities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico; it will take place on April 3, 4, 5, and 6 at Distrito Capitalinas, in the city of Córdoba, Argentina.

The exhibition, which opened on November 28, 2024, presents for the first time a family collection of great significance to Peruvian history, consisting of portraits, religious paintings, and various objects. These pieces allow for an exploration of different aspects of life in the viceregal court of Lima during the 18th century. 

La Commanderie de Peyrassol presents a monographic exhibition by Jonathas de Andrade - Maceió, Brazil, resident in Recife -, within the framework of the cultural season, held this year under the aegis of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Brazil and France. Philippe Austruy - owner of the site and collector of contemporary art -, echoing the desire for a “multidisciplinary, innovative and committed” season and the reflections and contemporary issues defined as thematic axes, in particular, climate and ecological transition, invited the artist to design an exhibition in this vast wine-growing domain in the south of France.

 The EFG Latin America Art Award, in association with ArtNexus, announced Marilyn Boror Bor from San Juan Sacatepéquez (Guatemala), represented by Judas Galería from Valparaíso (Chile), as the nominated artist for its annual acquisition award.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama has opened applications for a prize aimed at supporting the careers of emerging artists in the country through professional training, curatorial guidance, and institutional visibility. The application period will remain open until May 25.

The Panarte gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama hosts Cúmulus: 10+ Years of Estudio Nuboso, an exhibition celebrating over a decade of collaborative practices at the crossroads of art, science, and ecology.

Pinta Panamá Art Week makes its debut from May 21 to 25. Over five days, it will offer a public program filled with art activities, inviting attendees to explore a city undergoing a cultural boom. This first edition positions Panama City as a key destination on the international art and culture calendar.

From Thursday, May 22 to Saturday, May 24, the FORO at Pinta Panamá Art Week will take place across various institutions in the city. Curated by Mónica E. Kupfer, the series presents a diverse program featuring both local and international experts. The event is free and open to the general public.

A selection of events, activities and cultural proposals bring together artists, curators, collectors and specialists in different parts of Panama City. Pinta Panama Art Week proposes an ambitious agenda from May 21 to 25 with the best of contemporary art in the region.

The end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 were marked by palpable euphoria in the art market, particularly in Miami during December’s fair week. The recent outcome of the U.S. elections and the return of Donald Trump to the presidency initially generated optimism among collectors and art professionals. It was expected that the new administration would boost liquidity in the U.S. market, with positive effects on the global art market.

Peruvian contemporary art is experiencing a vibrant moment. Over the past decade, its art ecosystem has begun to consolidate, with a growing local collector base, a more professional gallery scene, and an increasing number of artists gaining international visibility. However, it remains an early stage, with a small and fragile market that requires stronger structures to support its development. Unlike other countries in the region, Peru lacks strong institutional support for contemporary art.
