Contemporary art publications about Argentina

In the 15th edition of Pinta Miami, from December 1 to 5, 2021, Vivian Galban will participate with her installation, Exhibition in Real Time, which consists of a human-scale camera obscura where the visitor will first be portrayed and then invited to participate in the development process. Three works by the Argentine artist and photographer are briefly analyzed below as an introduction to her work.

From October 13 to 17, at the Casa Basavilbaso palace in the City of Buenos Aires, BAphoto will celebrate its seventeenth edition. In a hybrid format, BAphoto will take place in person and accompanied by a virtual program.

Is a visual manifesto possible? How to show the possible dialogues between art and education? How many images are within each image? How many words are in each word? What's in between? With these questions, the Argentine artist Marina De Caro introduces us to her exhibition Tierra de las emociones perdidas (Land of Lost Emotions), at the Ruth Benzacar gallery in the city of Buenos Aires, which brings together her most recent production.

The third edition of the Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo del Sur (BIENALSUR) organized by the National University of Tres de Febrero (UNTREF), an Argentine public university, will take place until December 2021 in more than 120 venues in 50 cities in 23 countries and the Vatican, with the participation of around 400 artists of various nationalities and different backgrounds.

The Buenos Aires gallery presents in Miliyo / Costa a bold selection of works by these artists separated by 30 years: Emiliano Miliyo (b.1970) and Eduardo Costa (b.1940).

This group show at the Buenos Aires gallery offers a multiple panorama of the urban experience. With the city as the protagonist, the works evoke the different relationships that can be found between the individual and its built environment.

The Argentine curator, with experience in renowned museums such as the Moderno in Buenos Aires and Malba, joins the arteBA team.

As a novelty this year, the presence of Latin America takes a different role and adjusted to reality. ARCOmadrid incorporates the section REMITENTE. Latin American Art, produced with the complicity of Mariano Mayer. The proposal shows the importance of Latin American art in the Fair and its essence is to facilitate and support the galleries that this time cannot travel to Madrid.

The renowned art contest, again organized in partnership with the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, will select and award $1,200,000 to an unpublished work to permanently inhabit one of the company's developments. Application deadline: August 26, 2021

Commissioned by Liverpool Biennial with support from Amalia Amoedo and Érica Roberts, Bianchi’s works and immersive installation create a locus where the organic is estranged and the industrial is anthromorphic.  

“To suppress detail and enhance harmony. Let matter arise, the very essence that is born from dispossession. To print of solemnity on the simple. Discover pure sensitivity in form. It is the absence of light. It is background and also figure. This exhibition proposes an ode to works in black color, freeing them from all drama. The representation of each piece is evident through the simplicity in the composition with the predominance of the flat, forceful color. The works are not explained or thought, they are only expressed. From the most subtle to the effective and concrete. Abstractions and geometric shapes, silhouettes, human faces and organisms. Conditionings and prejudices are not relevant. It is a formal and aesthetic choice for each artist, challenging to see beyond this present and uncertain time." expresses Laura San Martín, founder and curator of the Buenos Aires-based gallery.

Fundación Itaú invites the public to visit and tour the works selected for the 11th edition of the Itaú Visual Arts Award. In the context of the pandemic and due to the impossibility of carrying out an in-person exhibition, Fundación Itaú took on the design of the exhibition in Google Arts & Culture in collaboration with Adriana Lauria, curator of the Prize.

The future Chief Curator of MALBA highlights: "After two decades of prestigious work, Malba consolidates a central trajectory for the local scene and of reference at a regional and international level." María Amalia García explains, and adds: “Maintaining a Latin American perspective around artistic processes entails the commitment to recognize and value the specificities of each region and abandon the pigeonholes in foreign categories.
