RESISTANCE AND EMPTINESS: TERESA SOLAR ABBOUD AT CA2M

For Teresa Solar Abboud (Madrid, 1985) the resistance of language and the morphology of speech are two characteristics present in all her work. Her work is based on a continuous search for multiple concepts presented as huge sculptural installations that, in recent years, have become more complex through forms related to resistance, hollowness, the body or bone structure. If at first the artist started with drawing and video as her fundamental working tools, over time, her production has focused with great intensity on the practice of sculpture and new materials with which she has been articulating a display of forms that take up elements related to the organic and lead to a world of metaphors related to the flow of currents, voids and connectivity between holes and hollows.

This project, entitled Pájaro sueño de máquina, alludes once again to the relationship with matter, language and corporal production. The exhibition revolves around two large installations that condense Teresa Solar Abboud's research in recent years. Presented first and conceived specifically for the CA2M Museum, the exhibition will occupy two different spaces on the second floor of the museum, where newly produced works will be combined with previously made pieces. On the one hand, the first room of pink tonality is conceived as an urethinic and surprising space, in which sculptures of the series "Tuneladora" are found, emphasizing the readings of horizontality and verticality through forms in which the softness of the gesture contrasts with the ductility of the material, emphasizing one of the ideas that cross the work of this artist such as the idea of visual alteration through new systems of color and forms related to nature itself.

In the second space, called by the institution atrium, some of the pieces that could be seen in the Liverpool Biennale will be shown suspended from the ceiling, where the idea of the bone in relation to a kayak is present again. Also, there will be some newly produced sculptures that the artist relates to reproductive organs.

The exhibition is a dialogue between ficition and reality, where different narratives propose new forms and plastic finishings, contrasting the effects of nature with the industrial aesthetic of smooth and shiny finishes. But not only sculptures have recently occupied a preferential place in Teresa Solar Abboud's career, drawings also give a good account of the reflection and organization articulated on the perception and experience of the origin of each form, of each piece and of the relationships generated between them drawn or expressed in clay or forged in metal.
