Tanya Capriles de Brillembourg (Caracas, Venezuela) received the LEGADO Award for Philanthropy in the Arts, presented by the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) at its annual gala on October 3 as part of the institution’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

MOLAA is the first and only museum in the United States dedicated to the preservation, exhibition and promotion of modern and contemporary Latin American art. According to the institution, Capriles de Brillembourg’s philanthropic work places art at the center of social impact. It links cultural patronage with humanitarian action, bringing art education, creative expression and healing opportunities to underserved communities, including children facing illness and social exclusion.

Her collection, exhibitions and support for cultural institutions have helped expand the international visibility and recognition of Latin American art. She also backed artists, invested in cultural infrastructure and promoted access to the arts across borders, actions MOLAA describes as aligned with its mission and values.

On the distinction, Capriles de Brillembourg said: “It is a very special moment for me, because this is not just a gala that highlights the work we collectors do as creators of a body of works that make up not only a coherent collection but, through them, tell the political, social and economic history of our country.”
