MALBA PRESENTS POP BRAZIL, THE RADICAL PULSE OF THE 60s–70s
Over 120 groundbreaking works arrive in Argentina in the most extensive exhibition to date on this defining artistic era.
Until February 2, 2026, Malba presents Pop Brazil: Vanguard and New Figuration, 1960s–70s, an exceptional exhibition featuring more than 120 works by 50 artists. The selection includes pieces from the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and from the Roger Wright—one of the most significant collections devoted to Brazilian art of the 1960s and 1970s—Malba, and Costantini collections. Key figures include Anna Bella Geiger, Antônio Dias, Claudio Tozzi, Hélio Oiticica, Mira Schendel, Rubens Gerchman, Wanda Pimentel, and Wesley Duke Lee.
Organized by the Pinacoteca de São Paulo to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Opinião 65 and Propostas 65, two landmark exhibitions in Brazilian art history, this is the most extensive and in-depth presentation ever staged in Argentina on the radical artistic practices of the period.
These seminal exhibitions catalyzed collective strategies that confronted Brazil’s political and social reality, marked by the rise of mass culture, resistance to the military dictatorship (1964–1985), and the emergence of cultural movements such as Tropicália and Cinema Novo.
Pop Brazil highlights the urgency and radical engagement of artists with everyday life, showcasing works that reshaped the relationship between the body, protest, popular culture, gender politics, public space, domesticity, and consumer culture. It also underscores the dialogue between visual arts, music, and film, revealing the cultural density of the era.
