MALBA ANNOUNCES RODRIGO MOURA’S DEPARTURE AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
The museum prepares for a new institutional phase ahead of its 25th anniversary.
The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba) has announced this Monday that Rodrigo Moura will step down as Artistic Director as of February 2026, concluding a one-year term in the position.
Moura’s tenure took place during a moment of major institutional transformation. The acquisition of the Daros Latinamerica Collection—bringing more than 1,200 contemporary artworks into the museum’s holdings—alongside plans for the museum’s expansion, the construction of a new technical storage facility, and the comprehensive management of the Malba–Costantini Collection, led to a reassessment of the museum’s strategic priorities.
As Malba approaches its 25th anniversary, the institution is entering a new chapter. A restructuring of its executive framework will be implemented, led by a Chief Executive Officer (CEO), aiming to support the museum’s ongoing growth and long-term development.
Reflecting on his time at Malba, Moura described the experience as a privilege and expressed gratitude to colleagues and partner institutions, while sharing his intention to remain connected to the museum’s future initiatives.
Eduardo F. Costantini, founder and president of Fundación Malba, acknowledged Moura’s professional expertise and personal qualities, wishing him continued success.
Moura will remain involved with the institution to complete ongoing projects. His final public appearance will take place on Thursday, January 29 at 6:00 pm, when he will join Brazilian artist Anna Bella Geiger for a public conversation at the museum auditorium, held in conjunction with the exhibition Pop Brasil: Vanguard and New Figuration, 1960s–70s.
