The Lima gallery presents NON (Nuevos Órganos Naturales), the exhibition by Oscar Santillán (Ecuador, 1980), which vindicates man's capacity to imagine new relationships with the world.

“WHAT EXISTS BEYOND KNOWN REALITY” IN 80m2 LIVIA BENAVIDES

Santillán has undergone a deep transformation and expansion in recent years. His commitment to research—which often delves into history, science, and technology—remains strong, though now approached in a more distinctly sensorial and sensual way.

NON (New Natural Organs) is based on the concept of the Antiworld, coined by the artist himself. It refers to “what exists beyond known reality. It is a worldview that embraces everything that escapes the logic of the dominant order, known as the world.” In this sense, while the hegemonic world finds it perfectly feasible to categorize our planetary reality in rational and systematic ways (what modern science calls taxonomy), the Antiworld rejects this by proposing relationships instead of linear categories.

These transgressive planetary encounters are explored by the artist in diverse ways. The points of entry are vast: they range from a reinvention of our material history (A Thousand Years of Nonlinear History), to a rediscovery of Latin American science fiction imaginaries (The Woman and the Robot), hidden ecologies (Oracle), a rethinking of ancestral Andean technologies (The Andean Age of Information), and a plunge into antitaxonomic orgies manifested in paintings and sculptures such as Larva, Uncontacted Botany, and Umbre, whose material presence shapes much of the exhibition.

80m2 Livia Benavides, a gallery specializing in Peruvian conceptual art, opened its doors in response to Lima’s limited artistic infrastructure. Its main goal has been the development of critical discourse around contemporary themes. It will be part of the Main Section of Pinta Lima 2025, a platform that highlights the diversity and excellence of Latin American artistic production.

NON (New Natural Organs) is on view at 80m2 Livia Benavides, located at Malecón Pazos 252, Barranco, Lima (Peru).
