These canvases, in a variety of formats, use color and geometry as catalysts for exploring the expressive potential of the line, shaping simple, elemental forms such as squares and rectangles in the construction of a distinctly aesthetic language.

THE FRAME AND THE CHROMATIC IN BEATRIZ OLANO AT PÉREZ HERNANDO

Rafael Pérez Hernando presents Tonalidades, a solo exhibition by Beatriz Olano (Medellín, Colombia, 1965) that brings together a series of paintings the artist has developed over the past year, some of them created specifically for the gallery.

In her works, the lines and figures arranged within the canvas, and which define its internal spaces, also point toward a critical reflection on the nature of boundaries. A certain aesthetic unity emerges from the sobriety of repetitive patterns that modify and stretch the original edges, producing new visual relationships. Alterations in scale—expansions or reductions through proportion—reinforce the idea of the frame as both a unit and a space for establishing new conversations within this three-dimensional field.

Additionally, two site-specific interventions can be seen throughout the gallery. Following the same logic, several vinyls strips of varying thicknesses and colors frame the architectural recesses of the space, adding a transformative sense of depth to a geometry that relies on volume for its reinterpretation. The exhibition thus proposes an inquiry into the formal possibilities of color and shape and their instrumental capacity in the creation of spaces and the construction of new dimensions.

Tonalidades. Beatriz Olano can be viewed until February 14 at Rafael Pérez Hernando, Orellana 18, Madrid (Spain).
