THE BELLY-BUTTON OF THE WORLD. CHRISTIAN CEUPPENS IN VIEDMA ARTE

The title of the exhibition refers to his profound work around the Guazú Hill, its people and its history as the origin of creation. It brings together a series of drawings and a large-format painting that crowns the room and the experience of immersing oneself in the great Paĩ Tavyterã world of the Amambay Mountain chain.

The room text, written by Bea Bosio, explains: "Deep in the woods, framed between 11 hills of the Amambay Cordillera, the sacred land of the Paï-Tavytera is guarded by its ancestral owners. In the wild sierra, the Cerro Guazú –or Jasuka Venda– imposes its image, a temple and a miracle for its guardians, containing the navel of the world and the origin of everything. The Yvy Oyruá, which in turn houses the primordial matter: the Jasuka (initial Mist that, by covering the world, created the tangible reality of the Paï universe: the birds, the forests, the rivers, the restless moon curving the night, and the fusion of colors and sounds of the glorious Amambay). In Ombligo del mundo, Christian Ceuppens stands in the shelter of the Jasuka Vendá and observes the landscape. As if immersed in a time capsule, he is surrounded by the traces of rock art in the surrounding caves, with prehistoric engravings of everyday life. He imagines the first inhabitant who created the sacred mist, the great grandfather and creator of the pristine beauty of the place, and thinks –from his artist's sensibility– of the evils that threaten today the navel of the world and cultural heritage of Paraguay".

Christian Ceuppens has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions presenting drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations and video art, as well as the realization of urban intervention projects and even has an outstanding career in the field of fashion design, costumes and scenery.
