SELEKA’S ABSTRACT GAME AT ENLACE: BETWEEN THE VISIBLE AND THE HIDDEN

ENLACE gallery presents Buenaventura, a solo exhibition by Seville-based artist Seleka, as the outcome of his involvement in the first edition of the gallery’s new Creative Residency Program. This initiative offers a space for immersion, production, and dialogue between international artists and the local context, creating a platform that fosters the exchange of ideas, sensibilities, and experiences—strengthening both the visiting artist’s career and the artistic ecosystem that hosts them.

The exhibition marks Seleka’s debut in Lima’s art scene and features a selection of never-before-seen paintings, almost entirely created during his stay in the capital, in a temporary studio set up within ENLACE’s facilities in San Isidro. This proximity allowed for a direct connection with the urban, material, and symbolic environment of the city.

“My practice unravels a mystery as I create a work, while simultaneously generating another for the viewer to attempt to decipher,” explains the artist.

A self-taught painter and cultural producer, Seleka is a prominent figure in Seville’s contemporary art scene, where he promotes diverse artistic languages and unconventional exhibition formats. His contemplative work invites a visual experience that calls for pause. Through layered painting, he explores the passage of time, the accumulation of experiences, and the tension between what is revealed and what remains hidden—allowing space for free and personal interpretation.

“Seleka’s painting is never static. It’s a painting of the present—of the immediate gesture, of channeled energy. His compositions are not closed or rationalized images: they are visual intuitions, impulses that reveal a way of seeing the world with openness and curiosity. There’s a deep trust in the act of making—a trust that’s almost childlike, in the best sense of the word: like someone who plays without fear of making mistakes, fully immersed in the experience,” explains Tarissa Revilla of ENLACE.

Seleka Muñoz (Seville, Spain, 1982) began engaging with public space through graffiti at the age of ten. Over the decades, his practice has evolved into a studio-based exploration of abstraction, marked by a deliberate detachment from the semiotics of urban intervention.

He has held solo and group exhibitions in countries such as the United States, Panama, France, Spain, Venezuela, and Luxembourg. He will present his latest show Buenaventura in Lima, Peru. His work is also part of major collections around the world, including: The Roux Collection (Panama), Colección Rucandio (Madrid, Spain), Fundación Cajasol Collection (Seville, Spain), Loma Collection (Madrid, Spain), Eric Meniger Collection (Paris, France), and the Elphège and the Pink Forest Collection (Paris, France).

The exhibition is open to the public through August 3 at ENLACE, Camino Real 1123 – 2nd Floor, San Isidro, Lima (Peru).
