LATIN AMERICAN ARTISTS IN FERNANDO PRADILLA’S SUMMER EXHIBITION

Colectiva de Verano (Summer Group Exhibition), on view at Galería Fernando Pradilla in Madrid, brings together represented and invited artists whose practices share a common interest in the investigation of the pictorial support. The exhibition offers a survey of diverse approaches to contemporary painting, ranging from geometric abstraction to figuration, with a particular emphasis on material and conceptual experimentation. Within this framework, Latin American artists occupy a prominent position, with participants from Colombia, Peru, and Brazil whose practices exemplify the diversity of visual languages that characterize contemporary art in the region.

Vicky Neumann (Barranquilla, Colombia, 1963) explores memory, intimacy, and the body through compositions constructed from layered images and painted fragments. Ricardo Muñoz Izquierdo (Pereira, Colombia, 1985), meanwhile, presents works from Psychotropical Anthropophagy, a project in which Surrealism, autobiography, and the Brazilian anthropophagic tradition converge. Alejandro Sánchez (Bogotá, Colombia, 1981) investigates color and perception, employing both as critical instruments to interrogate globalization and its cultural consequences.

Jorge Cabieses (Lima, Peru, 1971) revisits the language of geometric abstraction by incorporating expressive gestures and unconventional supports into his practice. Hildebrando De Castro (Olinda, Brazil, 1957) reaffirms the relationship between plane, color, and space through paintings inspired by modern architecture. Taken together, these works underscore the technical sophistication and conceptual breadth of contemporary Latin American art, demonstrating its capacity to engage with pressing social, political, and cultural concerns.

The exhibition is completed by the participation of Aurora Lario (Madrid, Spain, 1967), Juan Francisco Casas (Jaén, Spain, 1976), and Natalia López de la Oliva (Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, Spain, 1998), whose works focus on the representation of the body, pictorial narrative, and poetic expression, thereby enriching the dialogue established with the Latin American contributions.
