INTIMATE CARTOGRAPHY OF CONTEMPORARY PANAMANIAN ART AT ARTECONSULT

From 05/21/2025 to 06/28/2025
Panama City, Panama

Galería Arteconsult presents Universos Paralelos, an exhibition that invites viewers to reconsider notions of belonging and territory through the lens of artistic experience.

INTIMATE CARTOGRAPHY OF CONTEMPORARY PANAMANIAN ART AT ARTECONSULT

The show brings together 19 artists from diverse backgrounds, trajectories, and visual languages, united by a common thread: having made the Panamanian isthmus a vital part of their personal geography. This multiplicity of perspectives — from those born in Panama who now live abroad to others who chose the country as their place of belonging — creates a multifaceted portrait of the current art scene, where identities, displacements, and personal quests intersect.

Curated by Ana Berta Carrizo, with exhibition design by Jonathan Hernandez Arana and production by Hinda Ehlers and Luis Guillén, Universos Paralelos sets the stage for a dialogue between long-established artists in Arteconsult’s program — a gallery with over four decades of experience — and emerging voices recently added to its roster. Through recent works spanning painting, drawing, collage, installation, photography, sculpture, textile art, sound art, and mixed media, the exhibition traces a map of intimate resonances that reflect Panama’s vibrant cultural landscape.

Participating artists include Maia Alfaro, Oscar Argote, Ruth Betancourt, Megan Carrera-Raleigh, Milko Delgado, Gabriela Esplá, Hugo Gonzalez, Walter Hurtado, Esviel Jeffers, Rubén Lozano, Vanessa Orelli, Alessandra Rosas, Andrea Santos, Fernando Toledo, Tabo Toral, Aristides Ureña Ramos, Alicia Viteri, and Emily Zhukov.

More than a display of individual talents, Universos Paralelos is an invitation to explore the symbolic territory each artist constructs through their work — a space that transcends geographic borders and is rooted in lived experience, memory, and a shared present.

The exhibition will be open to the public from May 21 to June 28 at Galería Arteconsult, located in the Amelia Building, Calle Arturo D. Motta, El Cangrejo (Panama).
