From 11/12/2025 to 01/23/2026
Barcelona, Spain

By Álvaro de Benito

The Barcelona venue of Zielinsky hosts GDA – Galeria de Artistas in its space and presents its group exhibition Perquirere. The show brings together works by several Brazilian artists associated with GDA, who share a common approach to research and to questioning the categorization of Western art. The selection of works seeks to move away from the stereotypes that have shaped the notion of so-called “brasilidade,” while reinforcing the institution’s aim to promote Brazilian artistic thought and practice.

Bruno Baptistelli (São Paulo, Brazil, 1985), who has also curated the exhibition, presents Afro-Brazilian Flag (in dialogue with David Hammons) – 2nd version, a piece in which the national colors are replaced by those of the Pan-African flag, along with several works from his T series, where he explores the letter as both a formal structure and a political sign.

Carolina Cordeiro (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 1983), in turn, evokes vernacular architecture and the lines of sewing through sculptures and drawings that incorporate zinc to create a personal visual code. Juliana dos Santos (São Paulo, Brazil, 1987) explores the sensory dimension of the blue pigment derived from the Clitoria ternatea flower—known as the butterfly pea—to convey the symbolism of time’s passage upon this natural color.

On a social level, Manauara Clandestina (Manaus, Brazil, 1992) focuses in her series Por enquanto 35 on transvestism as a framework to address identity and political existence, while Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino (Buritizeiro, Brazil, 1989) examines colonial structures and semiotics through conceptual strategies, as seen in T, a thermometer measuring the room’s temperature, and Hometown, a clock set to the time zone of Minas Gerais.

Perquirere can be visited until January 23, 2023, at Zielinsky Barcelona, Mercader 10, Barcelona (Spain).
