ALBERTO BARAYA’S GALICIA, BROUGHT TOGETHER AT FERNANDO PRADILLA
Alberto Baraya brings together his projects Vento and Camelias Expedition, developed in Galicia, in an exhibition that combines video and installation as records of artistic and scientific action and research, reflecting on landscape, botany, and methods of exploration.
The Fernando Pradilla gallery is hosting the exhibition Viaje a Galicia at its Madrid space, a survey-style presentation that brings together works from two projects Alberto Baraya (Bogotá, Colombia, 1968) has developed over the past two years in the Galician province of Pontevedra: Vento and Expedición Camelias.
In Vento, curated by Iñaki Martínez Antelo and presented at the Museo de Pontevedra in November 2024 as part of the Infiltraciones program, the artist sailed through the Pontevedra estuary aboard a traditional vessel whose sail rises as both witness and testimony to the surrounding landscape. As a result of the action, the sail became the central element of an installation that can now also be seen at the gallery, alongside a video piece documenting Baraya’s journey.

The second project that completes Viaje to Galicia is Expedición Camelias, an activity with an artistic and scientific approach rooted in comparative botanical studies in the province of Pontevedra. The Artificial Naturalist, one of Baraya’s alter egos, collected and introduced camellias into both urban and rural environments across Galicia. The project, to which he was invited by the RAC Foundation, appropriates the practices and instruments of a scientific expedition in order to infuse the scientific method with an artistic dimension.
Alberto Baraya. Viaje a Galicia can be seen until 21 February 2026 at Fernando Pradilla, Claudio Coello, 20, Madrid (Spain).
