Arte al Día takes a look at the curatorial selection that highlights works by Ibero-American galleries in the NEXT, RADAR and Main sections of Pinta Miami. The curatorial team for the 2024 edition of the fair is integrated by Irene Gelfman -global curator of Pinta and co-curator of FORO and Special Project-, Giuliana Vidarte -curator of NEXT and co-curator of FORO and Special Project- and Angelica Arbelaez -curator of RADAR.

Pinta Miami brings together artists who explore the identity, memory and cultural diversity of Ibero-America. In this 2024 edition, several proposals seek to redefine the Latinx notion from unique and transformative perspectives.

The Pinta Miami 2024 edition -from December 5 to 8- presents proposals that enhance the Latin American gene. Arte al Día highlights four galleries from four Latin American countries: Petrus Gallery in Puerto Rico, Proyecto H in Spain and Mexico, Salar Gallery in Bolivia and Judas Gallery in Chile.

In the upcoming edition of Pinta Miami –from December 5 to 8, 2024– Angelica Arbelaez will be in charge of the RADAR section. In a dialogue with Arte al Día, she reflects on the role of Latin American art in international artistic discourses and how artists from the region contribute to the construction of a new global artistic narrative for a richer and more inclusive world.

To paint the forest beings is the Special Project of Pinta Miami 2024. Curated by Irene Gelfman and Giuliana Vidarte, it brings together paintings by Shipibo-konibo indigenous artists with representations of the flora, fauna and cosmovision of the Peruvian Amazon to rethink the past, present and future of the planet.

The 2024 edition of the Venice Biennale is coming to an end. Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere, curated by Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa, offered a reflection through art about migration and borders, recurring themes in today's global discussion. Arte al Día was present to cover the 60th International Exhibition, not only to bring the work of more than 300 artists from almost 100 countries, but also to focus on the contribution of Latin American artists to the global scene, whose presence marked a high point in this edition.

The section dedicated to abstraction in the Strangers Everywhere / Stranieri Ouvunque exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2024 explores how artists from the Global South -particularly those from Latin America- pursued less rigorous forms, undulating lines and a vibrant color palette stemming from references of their own.

Confines of Paraguay is the initiative of Fernando Allen and Fredi Casco that is part of the Main Section of Pinta BAphoto. It is a project that began with a photographic approach, but expanded into an editorial, audiovisual and documentary archive -along with other activities- related to the works of popular and indigenous artists from Paraguay.

Cecilia Lenardón's Special Project at Pinta BAphoto, curated by Irene Gelfman, presents an installation that pushes the representation of the body through photography to the limit, transforming the static image into a living and performative experience. Entitled Cuatro piezas clave (Four Key Pieces), the work invites us to reflect on the body's boundaries and its capacity to tolerate effort and repetition.

Lorenzo González Baltazar will be part of the NEXT | Out of Focus section with Primor Gallery, in the 20th edition of Pinta BAphoto. He presents his project Sapucay Marica, with photographs that capture the coexistence of the rural and the queer, performance and tradition, the intimate and the collective.

Pinta BAphoto –the most important photography fair in the region– presents as a new feature the RADAR section, curated by Sebastián Vidal Mackinson. In an interview with Arte al Día, Sebastián reflects on the diversity of approaches in photography today and its growth as a medium capable of dialoguing with other forms of artistic expression.

The Venice Biennale 2024 offers an exceptional platform for examining the challenges and opportunities facing the future. The pavilions of Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary trace different forms of looking at and thinking about the world to come, projecting visions of the environment, equilibrium, adaptation, world order and, of course, collective memory.

Disobedience Archive is a video archive project in constant transformation, linking artistic practices and political action. At the Venice Biennale exhibition, it takes the form of The Zoentrope, a pre-cinematographic machine that gives life to a space that generates new perspectives.

The Mexico Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2024 proposes an immersive experience that invites the viewer to reflect on the act of migrating and its impact on identity and sense of belonging. As we marched away, we were always coming back is Erick Meyenberg's project curated by Tania Ragasol. It includes elements created in Mexico, Italy and Albania.

The voices of Latin American artists emerge strongly in this 2024 edition of the Venice Biennale. Claudia Alarcón, Julia Isídrez and Juana Marta Rodas, Ana Segovia, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger and Claudia Andújar lead viewers on a profound journey through their cultural heritage and unique artistic practices.

The third edition of Pinta Sud | ASU featured for the first time the Young Curators Program, under the leadership of Adriana Almada. In a conversation with Arte al Día, the two selected participants -Majo Fiorio and Luis Ocampos Pompa- shared their experience throughout the process.

Nélida Mendoza is an artist who was born in Paraguay, but lived in several parts of the world, including Argentina and Italy. She is presenting the exhibition Fuerte Olimpo and Other Stories at the gallery K / Arte y Naturaleza during the Pinta Sud | ASU 2024 art week.

Pinta Sud | ASU 2024 presented at the Casa Mayor gallery the exhibition Warm Heart, with works by the Paraguayan artist Feliciano Centurión. It is a collection of works from different periods of his career and is curated by Irene Gelfman.

Paraguayan artist Claudia Casarino will be part of the opening of the Pinta Sud | ASU 2024 art week, from August 5 to 11, 2024. In a conversation with Arte al Día, she explains her link with Paraguay, the body and clothing to tell stories that reinterpret the universe of women.

In the next edition of Pinta PArC 2024, Herlitzka & Co. (Buenos Aires) and Henrique Faria (New York) join forces to present a booth proposal that challenges conventional notions of contemporaneity and ancestry in Latin American art.

Lucila Gradin begins her work when creating her own natural dyes –through dyeing and medicinal plants from all over the world– and culminates it by pursuing the image that leaves every trace of this ancestral practice through embroidery, textiles and compositions on paper. The Argentine artist is part of the RADAR section of Pinta PArC 2024, together with COTT Gallery.

Argentine artist Trinidad Metz Brea is part of the 2023 edition of Pinta Miami, within the NEXT section that presents emerging artists from Latin America. In an interview with Arte al Día, she explores the contradictions and challenges of our present and how this is the seedbed for her sculptures, murals and post-human figures.

In her practice, Brazilian artist Manoela Medeiros questions artistic media by going beyond their conventional formats, producing paintings and in situ installations that explore the relationships between space, time, and the corporeality of art and of the viewer. Together with Felipe Cohen, they are part of Kubik Gallery’s proposal for Pinta Miami 2023.

Giuliana Vidarte is a curator, art historian and teacher. Her work focuses on the rewriting of history from the perspective of the discourse of the Peruvian Amazon. In an interview with Arte al Día, she talks about her career and how she developed the curatorial proposal for the NEXT section for Pinta Miami 2023.
