Bureau, a cultural strategy office based in Buenos Aires, will occupy one of the apartments in the Ateliers Tres Sargentos, located at Pasaje Tres Sargentos 422 in the Retiro neighborhood. The building was designed in 1937 by Sánchez, Lagos y de la Torre. The space will officially open its doors in late October 2026.

For the opening, Bureau is preparing Dirección de Destino, an exhibition presenting new site-specific work by artists Olivier Mosset and Gilda Picabea. The show will run from October 24 to November 4, 2026. The organizers will share more information about the exhibition and the opening soon.

Bureau works around art, architecture, design, and other forms of cultural production. Its practice unfolds across three fields of action: artists, collectors, and institutions and companies. With artists, it supports the development of a career and a position within the cultural field; with collectors, it develops criteria and perspectives that shape a collection; and with institutions and companies, it considers how art can be integrated into their structures and contribute to building an identity and a cultural policy.

Almost ninety years after its construction, the building is once again linked to cultural production. Ateliers Tres Sargentos 422 and Edificio Tres Sargentos 436 were built side by side in 1937 as rental buildings with ateliers. At 422, the atelier was part of the program from the outset, and the studio of Sánchez, Lagos y de la Torre set up its own office there.

In 1938, architect Antonio Bonet began living in one of the apartments at 436 and set up a studio there with Ricardo Vera Barros and Abel López Chas. In that setting, the architects who would form the Grupo Austral collective began to gather. The group was created that same year around Bonet, Juan Kurchan, and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy.

Bureau’s arrival opens the space to a wider public. After decades of mainly private access, 422 will allow visitors to see the inside of a building that was long tied to the private and professional lives of its residents.

Dirección de Destino is on view at Bureau, Ateliers Tres Sargentos 422, Retiro, Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 24 to November 4, 2026.
