FOUR INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS BEGIN THEIR RESIDENCY AT ARROSCIA

Arroscia Residency announced its 2026 Artists in Residence cohort, welcoming four international artists representing four distinct regions of the world. Chosen from a highly competitive pool of 188 applicants from 45 countries, the selected artists were evaluated by a seven-member jury based on their technical mastery, conceptual innovation, and artistic vision.

The residents have been immersed since late August in an intensive eight-week creative cycle. Their residency will culminate in a joint public exhibition in late October, offering the local community and regional visitors a direct encounter with works created entirely during the residency.

"Intercultural exchange of art and ideas is the founding pillar of Arroscia Residency," said John Clements, co-founder of the program. "This creative synergy not only dramatically broadens the expressive horizons of our resident artists, but also deeply enriches the social and cultural fabric of Pieve di Teco. By building a dynamic bridge between global contemporary practices and our territory's historical heritage, we foster a vital dialogue that drives both artistic development and community inspiration."

Featured artists of the 2026 cohort:

• Julie Harrison (New York, United States) – Visual artist: Explores the duality of nature, artifice, and imagination through intuitive, process-driven, multilayered drawings. Her abstract works fuse graphite on paper with collected maps and microbiological imagery to beautifully blur the boundaries between science and fiction.

• Juana Subercaseux (Mexico City, Mexico) – Abstract painter: Investigates the spiritual, intimate, and incorporeal dimensions of nature. Through painting, she translates micro- and macroscopic scientific phenomena, chemical events, and atomic fusions, focusing recently on electricity as a vital communicative force linking matter to the cosmos.

• Raquel de la Coba Martínez (Madrid, Spain) – Visual artist and muralist: Examines the crucial relationships between organism, territory, and painting as a form of situated knowledge. Her large-scale pictorial gestures and site-specific mural interventions approach landscape as a direct, visceral experience that moves through physical, emotional, and collective spaces.

• Sharon Cheuk Wun Lee (Hong Kong/New York) – Drawing and sculpture: Uses meticulous hand-engraving on industrial aluminum surfaces to capture and embody ideas of absence. Manipulating light as a singular sculptural medium, her shifting landscapes and botanical motifs elegantly explore themes of homeland, transition, and itinerant belonging.
