TUNGA’S "YO, VOS Y LA LUNA " MAKES ITS EUROPEAN DEBUT
Supported by Collegium, the acclaimed installation by the Brazilian artist arrives in Spain with a sensorial and contemplative proposal in dialogue with the Church of San Miguel in Arévalo.
Collegium presents, for the first time in Europe, the installation Yo, vos y la luna by Tunga (born Antônio José de Barros Carvalho e Mello Mourão, Palmares, Brazil, 1952 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2016). The work, part of the collection of Sarina Tang, continues its exhibition journey across the Atlantic after being shown at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) and the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM).
The installation brings together materials characteristic of the Brazilian artist’s visual language, such as stones, mirrors, glass, plaster, resin, and suspended structures, arranged around a fossilized tree trunk that functions as a symbolic axis for the piece.
Rooted in an experiential and contemplative approach, visitors to the Iglesia de San Miguel de Arévalo, in the province of Ávila, are invited to immerse themselves in the multiple dimensions the installation radiates. With a strong sensorial impact, looking through the hollow of the central trunk activates a perception that engages with the mythological and archaeological themes embedded in the work.
In its olfactory dimension, the slow dripping of amber essence transports the viewer into another space, where large bronze fragments of human fingers appear to interact with the physics of light and corporeality. This internal dialogue, which also extends to the sacred space where the work is exhibited, reveals a materialization of the intangible, oscillating between the organic and the mineral.
Tunga. Yo, vos y la luna can be visited until 18 October 2026 at the Church of San Miguel, San Miguel 15, Arévalo (Spain).
