The show SOI NIWE seeks to showcase the high level of Indigenous art, developed and strengthened within intercultural schools, where knowledge is passed down from generation to generation.

In the strokes, figures, and colors, an identity is expressed that preserves its essence and its connection to memory, spirituality, and the land. This exhibition is an invitation to see with our own eyes, to discover the symbolic power of Kené, and to recognize the depth of a living culture that powerfully expresses itself through the canvas, memory, and heart.

The history of the Shipibo-Konibo people is rich and fascinating. It is believed that they arrived in the Ucayali region from the north between 650 and 810 BCE.

According to their origin myth, they emerged in Cumancaya, an archaeological site in the upper Ucayali, to repopulate the world for the fourth time. They believe that all living beings have a spirit and that nature is sacred. Ayahuasca, their master plant, guides them on their path to the world. With geometric patterns, the kené (a type of ceramic) decórate ceramics, textiles, and bodies with a profoundly spiritual vision.
