RECIPROCITY IN MIAMI: DIALOGUE BETWEEN GENERATIONS AND JULIO LARRAZ

The Julio Larraz Foundation, in collaboration with Ascaso Gallery, opens this friday Reciprocity, an exhibition that pays tribute to the Cuban master’s legacy and his decisive influence on contemporary art. The opening reception will take place this evening, September 19, from 6 to 10 pm at the gallery’s Miami location.

The show presents Larraz’s works alongside those of eleven artists who, in different ways, have engaged with him in a creative dialogue shaped by inspiration and mentorship. The participants are Cooper Dragonette, Reyner Ferrer, Julio Figueroa Beltrán, Nelson Halil, Maia Larraz, Reinier Llanes, Jefreid Lotti, Heidy Love Larraz, Edel Lugones, Leticia Sánchez Toledo, and Jojacne Téllez. Each shares with Larraz a bond of artistic reciprocity, where his generosity and vision continue to resonate.

Founded in 2019 by the artist’s family, the Julio Larraz Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting his work, guided by Larraz’s lifelong conviction: “Freedom is the very essence of art, because only from freedom can something true be created.” Reciprocity embodies this principle, showing how the master’s creative drive continues to inspire new generations.

The exhibition’s title underscores this spirit of exchange and return: Larraz’s gesture of sharing the gallery space with younger artists who, in turn, reflect back to him the imprint of his influence through their own artistic explorations.

The artist himself remarked: “I would like the audience to take away a sense of dialogue and continuity, to understand that art is not a monologue, but a conversation between generations, times, and sensibilities. And, above all, to take away a feeling of shared freedom.”

Ascaso Gallery, host of the exhibition, has built a solid trajectory since 1989, when it opened its first location in Valencia, Venezuela. It later expanded to Caracas (2002) and Miami (2010), establishing itself as one of the most influential Latin American galleries on the continent. Its program combines key figures of modern and contemporary art with emerging proposals that engage with current debates in the international art scene.

Reciprocity will be on view through November 8, 2025, at Ascaso Gallery, 1325 NE 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33132 (United States).
