PAMM INVESTIGATES CARIBBEAN PERFORMANCE ART PRACTICES AND THEIR DIASPORAS IN “BEYOND REPRESENTATION”
The ongoing project, curated by Iberia Pérez González and presented by the museum's Caribbean Cultural Institute, combines live art events with a digital video-performance platform.
The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) presents Beyond Representation, an ongoing research and exhibition project organized by Iberia Pérez González, Curatorial Associate of the Andrew W. Mellon Caribbean Cultural Institute, with the assistance of the museum's Education Department. The project is presented by PAMM's Caribbean Cultural Institute.
The initiative investigates a broad range of performance and performative practices by artists from the Caribbean or of Caribbean descent working in the region or its diasporas. It brings together an intergenerational group of artists — from pioneers in the field to emerging voices — who employ the body or rely on bodily experience and live action to critically engage with the social, political, and cultural reality of their respective contexts. Focused on process, the project examines relationships with space, matter, and other media, frequently incorporating audience interaction and participation.
The project unfolds through a series of live art events, contextualized and discussed through interviews and essays published in CCI Forum. In parallel, a series of video-performances and performance documentation is presented on PAMMTV, the museum's free streaming platform, accessible to global audiences. The second edition, on view through November 9, 2026, focuses on performances in public spaces and includes works by David Pérez Karmadavis, Miguel Braceli, Tania Bruguera, Ada Maricia Patterson, nibia pastrana santiago, and Zachary Fabri.
Beyond Representation is on view at the Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami, United States, and at pammtv.org.
