Ana Montiel: Diagramas de Coherencia. Parra & Romero

Diagrams of Coherence is the first solo exhibition by Ana Montiel (Logroño, Spain, 1981) at the Parra & Romero gallery in Madrid. The showcase by the artist, who has been developing her artistic practice in Mexico for over a decade, forms part of her global project Topologies of Existence (TOE), in which she explores the relationship between consciousness, perception, and reality. Departing from the question of whether an inner transformation can produce a genuine change in the reality we inhabit, her research on neuroplasticity engages in dialogue with scientific hypotheses on quantum biology and consciousness. Thus, Montiel proposes that both attention and internal transformation can modify our perception.

The series of paintings presented alongside the audiovisual work El yo en despliegue (notas para una realidad en continua evolución) is organized into a body of panoramic compositions representing transformations and transitions between the individual and the various ways of interpreting reality. Painting thereby acquires the capacity to become a space for investigation, where each piece forms part of a cartography of an ongoing transformation. In this sense, visitors can traverse and interpret them without a single reading or a predetermined meaning.

Although the references employed by Montiel derive from different traditions, all of these disciplines converge on the idea that modifying the way we observe constitutes the cornerstone of how we construct reality through perception. For this reason, Diagrams of Coherence does not aim to offer closed answers, but rather to share these reasonable doubts as an experimental exercise in which viewers can understand their own perception as an active practice.

Ana Montiel. Diagrams of Coherence can be visited until November 14, 2026, at Parra & Romero, Claudio Coello, 14, Madrid (Spain).
