JAIME NUÑEZ’S WORK AT CASA DEL BARRIO

Jamie N. del Arco features six installations involving drawing, painting, a mural, a video, risographic prints and artist's books.

Curator Ana Rosa Valdez states: "This exhibition contains works produced from 2021 to the present that have not been previously exhibited in the country. It includes a mural created expressly for Casa del Barrio and a compendium of artist books that Núñez del Arco has published in recent years. These proposals are final evidence of a change of route: there is perhaps a less imprecise positioning in terms of politics, which nevertheless maintains a firm footing in the distrust of slogans from any part of the ideological spectrum. Attention shifts from the world of intimate affections to common experiences and the public arena, from where social commentaries infiltrate. A sharper attitude towards art is discovered through words, which now, instead of being tangled and hidden, open up to reading like soft retina strokes.

Jaime Núñez del Arco is a visual artist, writer and editor who resides between Quito and Mexico City. His bilingual texts, drawings and paintings, as ironic as they are humorous and sentimental, are detailed observations on social issues, contemporary culture, personal relationships, loneliness and memories.

Jaime recently showed a series of drawing installations at PARC 2022 (Lima, Peru) and ArteBA 2021 (Buenos Aires, Argentina). In 2020 he inaugurated Gloria Gaynor Tenía Razón (N24 gallery, Quito, Ecuador) and, in 2019, Aquí y en Everywhere (+ARTE, Quito, Ecuador); That same year he participated in the collective The Exhausted Land (Klosterfelde Gallery, Berlin) together with Latin American and Caribbean artists such as Teresa Burga, Quisqueya Henriquez and Adrián Balseca. Finally, the Saatchi Gallery (London) selected one of his works to show in its celebrated Screen Project.
