THE SUBTLETY OF SANDRA CINTO, AT ES BALUARD

Es Baluard in Palma de Mallorca presents Preludio para el sol y las estrellas (Prelude for the Sun and the Stars), a project by Sandra Cinto (Santo André, Brazil, 1968) that transforms the museum space into a realm suspended between perception, time, and matter. The result envelops visitors in an expanded landscape that invites reflection through stillness and contemplation, where the sensory and the act of pausing become central to the experience.

Since the 1990s, Cinto has distinguished herself through her dedication to drawing and painting, while also embracing other media. By creating an imaginary world filled with her own symbols, the Brazilian artist has developed a narrative universe that oscillates between reality and dream, drawing inspiration from fantasy.

Her projects—like the one now on view in Palma—also engage with the surrounding architecture, producing a spatial demarcation that nevertheless extends or expands the traditional boundaries of drawing and painting.

The exhibition unfolds across three interconnected spaces, all linked by drawing. The first, an installation of large-format fabrics, uses the metaphor of the sea to evoke the complexity of journeys and displacement in contemporary society. The other two feature expansive murals: one, rendered in gold, suggests a borderless landscape; the other explores silence and the introspection of darkness.

THE RITUAL EXPRESSION OF DONNA HUANCA, AT TRAVESÍA CUATRO

At its Madrid venue Travesía Cuatro presents Las niñas del altiplano, an exhibition that forms the second chapter of Donna Huanca’s (Chicago, United States, 1980) first solo show in this space. While in Lengua de Bartolina Sisa (2017) the Bolivian-American artist paid a personal tribute to the heroine who led the Indigenous revolution against colonialism in the 18th century, her most recent proposal focuses on the female body and psyche, seeking reconstruction on all levels and instrumentalizing ritual as a means of repair oriented toward the future.

Now, his oeuvre is once again the subject of study in Spain, where it had not been shown for more than a decade, through the exhibition organized by the Blanca Berlín Gallery in Madrid.

MEMORY AND SPIRITUALITY IN MAURO PIVA, AT ESPACIO MÍNIMO

Espacio Mínimo presents Alamandas, the second solo show by Mauro Piva (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1977) at the Madrid gallery. The proposal navigates through a universe with a strong natural presence, where connections between memory and spirituality—almost shamanic—emerge. From his own life experience, the Brazilian artist draws an environment built around remembrance, around the force and impact of the present upon the space one longs to return to, but which, in a certain sense, drifts away from the real.
