SP-ARTE ROTAS 2025 IN SÃO PAULO: A FAIR OF MULTIPLE IDENTITIES

From August 27 to 31, Arca (São Paulo) will host SP-Arte Rotas 2025, bringing together 65 curated projects including galleries, museums, and special initiatives from 12 Brazilian states, alongside participants from Argentina and the Peruvian Amazon. After three successful editions as Rotas Brasileiras, the fair adopts a new name that reflects its international expansion while maintaining strong ties to Brazilian artistic production.

This year’s edition explores themes such as eroticism, territory, and environmentalism through a wide range of media — from painting and sculpture to ceramics and textiles. Established galleries such as Luisa Strina, Almeida & Dale, Gomide&Co, Mendes Wood DM, Vermelho, Luciana Brito, Flexa, Galatea, Mitre, and Martins&Montero join newcomers including MT Projetos de Arte, MaPa Foto, Isla Flotante (Argentina), and Xapiri Ground (Peru).

The fair also resonates with the 36th Bienal de São Paulo — opening the following week — by featuring several of its participating artists: Gê Viana, Gervane de Paula, Heitor dos Prazeres, Lidia Lisbôa, Maxwell Alexandre, Rebeca Carapiá, Maria Auxiliadora, Manauara Clandestina, Marlene Almeida, Nádia Taquary, and Moisés Patrício.

Among the highlights is Transe, a project by Lucas Albuquerque that gathers five young national and international artists focused on non-figurative practices. Another key feature is Mirante, curated for the second consecutive year by Rodrigo Moura (Malba, Buenos Aires). Positioned at the heart of the fair, it presents large-scale works that spark reflection on Brazil’s diverse identities.

The projects underline the fair’s vocation as a space for discovery and the circulation of Latin American art. Almeida & Dale presents works by Heitor dos Prazeres and Rebeca Carapiá alongside figures like Tunga and Paulo Pasta; Gomide&Co stages a dialogue between Teresinha and Valeska Soares; Luisa Strina dedicates its booth to Marepe; Galatea features a solo by Tito Terapia; and Flexa brings together works by Adriana Varejão, Leonilson, Tomie Ohtake, and Tunga through the lens of eroticism.

Other highlights include Gerardo Petsaín Sharup at Xapiri Ground (Peru), a dialogue between Mira Schendel and Rosario Zorraquín at Isla Flotante (Argentina), the Afro-Brazilian legacy explored at Paulo Darzé, and Jalapoeira Apurada, a project where quilombola women from Jalapão create sculptural lamps in golden grass.

“SP-Arte Rotas is an invitation to explore new paths, discover productions beyond the Rio–São Paulo axis, and revisit established names from new perspectives,” says Fernanda Feitosa, founder and director of SP-Arte.

SP-Arte Rotas will be open to the public from August 27 to 31, at Arca, Av. Manuel Bandeira, 360 - Vila Leopoldina, São Paulo (Brazil).
