LIVING ARCHIVE: AN INITIATIVE THAT HIGHLIGHTS LATIN AMERICAN ART IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
The project seeks to promote encounters, exchange, and the creation of networks within the British art ecosystem.
ARCHIVO VIVO (Living Archive) is a growing platform that strengthens the community of visual artists of Latin American and Spanish-speaking Caribbean descent living in the UK, through opportunities for encounter, connection and increased visibility.
It emerges from research into the presence of contemporary Latin American artists within the British arts ecosystem. Among the findings are a lack of visibility and limited opportunities for the production and exhibition of work, as well as a shared need among artists, curators and those interested in art from Latin America to strengthen connections, foster exchange and establish networks of support.
ARCHIVO VIVO, created by Raquel Villar-Pérez, positions itself as a point of reference for artists, researchers, curators and writers interested in art from Latin America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean.
“We are delighted to present Archivo Vivo, a digital platform dedicated to strengthening the visibility of visual artists of Latin American and Spanish-speaking Caribbean descent living in the United Kingdom,” said the founder.
Raquel Villar-Pérez is an independent researcher, writer, and curator working between the UK and Spain. She is interested in the work of women-identified image-makers exploring themes of migration, transnational feminisms, and social and environmental justice from an intersectional perspective. She frequently serves as a juror for prestigious photography awards, participates in portfolio reviews, and presents her work at talks and conferences.
