A REFLECTION ON LANGUAGE AND MATERIALITY AT GALERÍA ANA TEJEDA
At a time marked by persistent inequalities, ecological urgencies, and identity-based disputes, this space conceives of art as a field of action for imagining and constructing alternative futures.
Galería Ana Tejeda presents todas las cosas se mezclaron con las palabras (all things were mixed with words), a group exhibition with a gender perspective curated by Karen Cordero Reiman, on view through April 30.
Through painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, video, and photography, the exhibition brings together the work of Deborah Castillo (Venezuela, 1971), Marianna Dellekamp (Mexico, 1968), Carmen Mariscal (USA/Mexico, 1978), Yohanna M. Roa (Colombia, 1978), Teresa Serrano (Mexico, 1936), and Marina Vargas (Spain, 1980). It includes several pieces created specifically for the show and articulates an intergenerational dialogue around everyday life and its political implications.
From a feminist perspective, the exhibition proposes a critical reflection on the relationship between language and materiality, as well as on the ways in which words and objects shape bodily, affective, and social experiences in daily life.
In the curator’s words, the artists gathered here, through diverse practices and languages, “point to the power and violent uses of words and things in patriarchal society,” while also resignifying them “to envision and shape—through creativity and resistance—other social models of coexistence and pleasure.”
todas las cosas se mezclaron con las palabras will remain on view through April 30 at Galería Ana Tejeda, Arquímedes 175, Polanco IV Sección, Miguel Hidalgo, 11560, Mexico City (Mexico).
