PINTA ART PRESENTS A NEW EDITION OF OPENFILE WITH JOSÉ CASTIELLA

The Pinta Group, directed by Diego Costa Peuser, and their respective fairs, both Pinta Miami and BAphoto, introduced a series of videos in which the artists presented their works. This time, the Madrid-based artista represented by the Ponce+Robles gallery talks about his painting and artistic endeavor.

PINTA ART PRESENTS A NEW EDITION OF OPENFILE WITH JOSÉ CASTIELLA

In his work, José Castiella (Pamplona, 1987) explores, through constant speculation with his materials, the possibility of new forms of life after collapse, in a constant search to reflect and express his own concerns about the unknown, and proposing the generation of a new world as a way of speaking indirectly about the current one. Castiella's characters emerge from spots resulting from accident and chance on the floor of his studio to later be suggested through representation in entropic processes that lead to narration. It is a process in which effusions and gestural marks suggest life and content, rich in references to both art history and popular culture, science fiction, video games and anime. The stain-characters that populate his compositions connect with Bosch, and something of Lovecraft's cosmic terror seems to surround them while the pictorial language is intertwined with a certain tragicomic character. A world with the appearance of sci-fi that seems to tell us about hidden drives, the inner journey and the fear of the unknown.

During December 2020, Pinta brought us closer to the artist's workshop in its OpenFile series. Short and dynamic videos, lasting between three and four minutes, immerse us in the methods of production and development of artworks. With an archive that runs since BAphoto 2020, in OpenFile many artists review unmissable moments of their careers, like Andrea Juan when she tells us about her photographic experience amid storms in Antarctica. As well as Bernadete Despujols, describing her sculpture work on female representation with inflatable dolls. Likewise, Alberto Ros explains his contact copying techniques, Nora Lezano remembers her first photographic session with Charly García and Alba Triana, an artist from Bogotá, describes her works with sounds, vibrations and energy. Without a doubt, OpenFile is a tailor-made product for art lovers.
