CAB EXPLORES LANDSCAPE AS LIVING MEMORY IN MATÍAS ERCOLE’S WORK
Matías Ercole: Me olvidé de mis ojos, installation view at CAB

The CAB / Centro de Arte Caja de Burgos presents Me olvidé de mis ojos (I Forgot My Eyes), an exhibition by Matías Ercole (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1987) in which landscape is conceived as a space where identity, memory, and culture meet. The project delves into the idea of landscape as a complex cultural architecture, built upon tensions between the real, the emotional, and the symbolic. Although it does not represent a specific place, the images on display prompt reflection on our interaction with landscape—how we imagine it and how we embrace it.

Within the exhibition, the artist arranges his works as architectural elements, shaping a path that invites viewers to engage more deeply and fully enjoy the experience. His work engages with references to the Latin American imaginary—visually and conceptually linked to myth and the wild—as well as a more European tradition that presents landscape as a structure of order and cultural construction.

Ercole’s primary technique is sgraffito, which he employs through a complex process of scraping that reveals the underlying layers of light and color. In this way, the traditional perception of landscape appears altered, proposing new forms within its representational codes.

Through drawing, the Argentine artist seeks to reveal invisible structures that exist as a substratum within space, creating a territory conducive to memory and experience. His work points to a constantly transforming world, a visually driven universe with a sense of dynamism that can expand and shift before a viewer turned witness.

Matías Ercole. Me olvidé de mis ojos can be seen until June 7, 2026, at CAB / Centro de Arte Caja de Burgos, La Puebla 1, Burgos (Spain).
