PILAR ELGUETA: CADA DÍA, UN NUEVO FIN DE MUNDO

From 04/07/2022 to 05/07/2022
NAC
Vitacura, Chile

Cada día, um nuevo fin de mundo (Every day, a new end of the world), by Pilar Elgueta, will be exhibited until May 7th at NAC (Contemporary Art Gallery). Her work is developed in multiple supports; from the installation to the recording of actions in various media: in it, she reflects on the relationship between the human and the landscape and its representation, the effort/result equation and the limits of our possibilities. She investigates metaphors and actions in search of elaborating the question about wills and their futility, considering failure or wear and tear as an aesthetic phenomenon.

PILAR ELGUETA: CADA DÍA, UN NUEVO FIN DE MUNDO

Cada día, um nuevo fin de mundo is Pilar Elgueta's first exhibition at NAC and it is the show that kicks off the gallery's exhibition calendar. After a 2021 marked by the reopening of cultural spaces, this exhibition - which opens on Wednesday, April 7 - presents one of the youngest winners of the Young Art Contest of the Museum of Visual Arts.

The exhibition is born as a personal reflection on the profound and sudden changes of recent years, in which the political, the ecological and the personal converge in a period of planetary crisis that supposes the closure of meaning, on the one hand, and the overture of powers, on the other. Thus, issues such as adaptation, contingency plans or crisis control appear as always current ideas in a period in which adaptation appears continuously contingent.

Through a set of works, ranging from video installation to porcelain, Pilar uses metaphors and analogies to refer to the obsolescent, the fleeting or the perishable; a precarious construction that drifts into the immensity of the sea with the word future or a series of sculptures with the Esc key, speak of a world that escapes us and of a gap that opens, of transforming ourselves into others.

In this way, the exhibition, rather than being a post-pandemic exhibition that reveals the chores of a series of subjects who were locked up and forced to explore domestic practices, manifests the power of poetic gestures and the imaginary in a fateful, changing context: a new end of the world every day.

Pilar Elgueta, graduated from the School of Art of the Catholic University, has had exhibitions in Chile and abroad from 2011 to date, in places such as the Museum of Contemporary Art (Santiago, Chile), Museum of Visual Arts (Santiago, Chile), Sala Balmaceda Arte Joven (Antofagasta, Chile), Association Culturelle Oblik (Paris, France), Asia Contemporary Art Platform NON Berlin (Berlin, Germany), Gallery Ambos Mundos (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Espacio Lalitho (Oaxaca , Mexico), MIA Anywhere Virtual Museum, (MIA Art Collection), NAC Gallery (Santiago, Chile) and together with Palmera Ardiendo (Cuernavaca, Mexico), among others. She was the first place winner of the # 10 version of the MAVI / Minera Escondida Contemporary Young Art Award in 2015. In recent years she has carried out residencies in Chile, Argentina and Mexico.
