Notes related to Colombia

The INCISO (Incision) exhibition brings together a group of artists who propose a journey via the collage technique and through the plurality of micro stories inherent to their own life or their interest as visual artists. Open until August 27, 2021, the exhibition is curated by Juan David Quintero Arbeláez.

Until September 15, the call is open to Colombian or foreign artists with more than 15 years of experience to present an artistic intervention in the Fragmentos space, created by Doris Salcedo. The award consists of one hundred and sixty million Colombian pesos ($160,000,000 m/cte).

The Museum of Modern Art Bogota presents I dreamt the landscape was looking at me, by Jessica Mitrani in in collaboration with Alex Czetwertynski. It is optical device that invites the viewer on a hypnotic journey suspended between reality and fiction, personal and public, resulting in a spontaneous and non-linear narrative.

“It is inevitable to mention the history of painting when we refer to the work of Fernando Uhía, since it seems in the first instance to allude to the theories of color, the purism of the medium and the ruptures of the mimetic representation that occurred during the emergence of the artistic avant-gardes in the first decades of the 20th century. However, Special Defects departs from such assumptions and invites the viewer to an aesthetic experience of color through a unique treatment of paint. The above, from a global language that is expressed through the construction of shapes and colors, which today are not only present in fine arts but also in design and advertising. Overcoming the distances and obstacles created by the global crisis, Latin American art continues to stand strong. With a specially designed section -REMITENTE-, created in collaboration with Mariano Mayer, ARCO is witness of a strong latin protagonism.

In this exhibition, the Colombian artist presents ten works in different media: drawing, video, sculpture, and installation. These explore the idea of play, movement and activation of the exhibition space.

This solo show, by one of the most recognized contemporary artists in Colombia, is made up of unseen works made specifically for this project. In Visceral, Luz Lizarazo (Bogotá, 1966) consolidates her work around the body as a living territory in which all forms of memory are registered. The selection of works exhibited serves as a prelude to the retrospective that she will have from August in the Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá (MamBo), curated by the Italian Eugenio Viola, the museum’s chief curator.

The gallery's proposal consists of a transdisciplinary project that builds a futuristic narrative fiction about an era ruled by artificial intelligence. From three scenarios: Extinción, Génesis and Tecnotrópico, experimental and innovative proposals of 24 contemporary Colombian artists are exhibited, whose artistic practice is framed in the discussions between art, science and technology.

Bringing together recent works by Bernardo Ortiz and Luis Roldan, the exhibition De saltos y tropiezos (Of Jumps and Stumbles) is the result of a year-long intellectual exchange between the artists. Thanks to their affinity for painting, their similar artistic pursuits and a longtime friendship, Ortíz and Roldán engage in an artistic dialogue marked by issues of confinement and the impossibility of leading a life free from temporal and spatial restrictions.

After concluding her retrospective exhibition at the Miguel Urrutia Art Museum, of the Banco de la República, between October and December 2020, the artist Beatriz González has been invited to participate in the exhibition "Another Energy: Power to Continue Challenging", in the company of 15 women artists of wide range and different nationalities, at the Mori Museum in Tokyo (Japan).
