IRL invokes a curatorial project for the 54th edition of the Venetian Biennial

The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), a consortium created for the external projection of the Catalan language and the culture it expresses, has created a contest for the start of a curatorial project that elaborated an artistic proposal for the participation of Cataluna and the Balearic Islands in the 54th edition of the Venetian Biennial of Visual Arts 2011 within the Eventi collaterali program.

The selection of the winning project will be left to the jury presided by Vicent Todolí (ex-director of Tate Modern) and formed by Bartomeu Marí (director of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona), Laurence Rassel (director of the Fundació Tàpies), Joan Fontcuberta (president of the associació d'Artistes Visuals de Catalunya), Cristina Ros (director of Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma) and David Bestué and Marc Vives (participating artists of the international exposition of the Venetian Biennial 2009).
The project contest consists of three phases. The first one, participation, ends at 12 a.m. on August 30th, 2010; to participate in this phase it is necessary to present a currículum vitae and a memory report that reflects the general ideas of the proposal according to the conceptual frame. The jury will elect a maximum of five projects to continue to the second phase, of ideas, in which participants will need to develop an initial proposal. The third phase consists in the hiring and execution of the winning project.
The participants invited to the ideas phase will receive 1.000 €. The winning project will be hired by the Institut Ramon Llull according to the following amounts:
- 9.000 € (IVA included) for the execution of the art project during the year 2010
- 9.000 € (IVA included) to develop and direct the project during the year 2011 if the Biennial Foundation selects the proposal
The project has a total execution budget of de 450.000 euros.
