LAURA HOPTMAN, THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE DRAWING CENTER OF NEW YORK

During yesterday morning (July 31) The Drawing Center of New York announced that Laura Hoptman will assume as Executive Director of the museum located in Manhattan. Curator of contemporary art and reference of the international art scene, Hoptman takes over the direction of The Drawing Center after eight years as curator of the Painting Department of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) of New York.

Laura Hoptman began her curatorial career in the early 90's at MoMA. Among a dozen of exhibitions that she cured at the institution, it stands out Drawing Now: Eight Propositions  -a contemporary figurative drawing exhibition- and several retrospectives of important artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Isa Genzken, Henry Taylor, Bruce Conner or Elizabeth. Peyton. In addition, she had a load of the fifty-fourth Carnegie International from the Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh.

Andrea Crane and Amy Gold, Co-chairs at the Drawing Center expressed their pleasure with Hoptman and explained that Laura's "unparalleled international experience will add a new and extraordinary vision to our institution". Likewise, Homptman stated that The Drawing Center has always been an inspiration throughout her career as a curator and that the institution has contributed to the legitimacy of drawing as a means of relent for the understanding of how art traverses our experiences and ways of lifetime.
