URBAN LANDSCAPE COMPOSITION

Galeria Leme and Central Galeria are pleased to present a special project that occupies the Marieloisa Building with works by José Carlos Martinat (Lima, Peru, 1974) and Rodrigo Sassi (São Paulo, 1981). Each in their own way uses the urban landscape in the composition of their works, creating a direct dialogue with the city center and with the building that receives them and gives the exhibition its title.

The exhibited works show the way of two artists to face the transformations of the urban environment, how to live them and, above all, how to make these changes a theme for their work.

José Carlos Martinat is a Peruvian artist represented by Galeria Leme. His work is dedicated to questioning the passage of time and the traces it leaves in the urban context. His works aim to apprehend and preserve a moment, separating it from the constant accelerated context and the construction and deconstruction of large cities. Martinat extracts from the walls, through transfer processes, different types of letters, logos and symbols that are not part of the protected artistic environment.

Rodrigo Sassi is a Brazilian artist represented by Central Galeria. With civil construction materials such as iron, wood and concrete, Sassi's works elude modern architecture. Without finishes and without costumes, the gray color of his works refer to the constituent elements of life in a metropolis.

The exhibition is held at the modernist building, the Marieloisa. Restored by CAVN that preserved the details of the time adding only the benefits of the most modern technologies combining the yesteryear with the vitality and technology of the present. The Marieloisa is surrounded by art deco buildings and palaces that today are part of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage of Sao Paulo.
