THE RETURN TO “NORMALITY” BEGINS WITH THE REOPENING OF THE GALLERIES OF MADRID

Wide open, during special hours or by appointment, Madrid's art galleries prepare for their return to normality. Little by little, without haste, thinking of everyone and collaborating with the rest of society to advance towards the future in the best possible way.

"It takes something to change for everything to remain the same."

El Gatopardo, Lampedusa

The statement from Arte Madrid, Art Galleries Association:

"Friends, we are back. Art galleries reopen on May 18 and we do it by reinventing ourselves so that everything remains the same (or better) than before, so that (almost) nothing changes; so that you can live, feel, experience, learn and enjoy art live, in person, without intermediaries, without obstacles, without haste, without screens (or with less).

We would not be talking about reopening the galleries if it were not for all the people, institutions, groups and companies that have been risking their health, taking care of others and staying at home. Thank you all for your dedication and sacrifice. We will never forget those who will no longer be among us. We are going to miss them so much.

Also to the rest of the cultural sector that will not be able to open its doors in the coming days. Art is nurtured, touched and intersects with other artistic and intellectual manifestations. Until they are all available to the public, the cultural sector will not be fully recovered, nor will we be fully happy.

While the physical spaces of the galleries were closed and while we turned to bring culture closer to homes, jobs and hospitals, we prepared ourselves, at the same time, for the return, thinking of providing the visitor with a place as safe and rewarding as possible, for your health and for your senses."

For their reopening, the galleries will follow the official sanitary measures, minimizing physical contact and allowing the public to enjoy the experience of visiting a gallery in safety.

“Starting next May 18 artists and exhibitions will resume their pulse and interrupted dialogue. We will reschedule all the exhibitions having what’s best for the artists in mind. Some will continue because they have not yet said their last word, others will be inaugurated. They will all overcome difficulties and, from personal and health security, they will show the viewer the potential and vitality of art to move and transform society.

Friends, the time has come, the moment, to see us, to meet us in the galleries of each neighborhood. That you enjoy and acquire, if you can, what excites you.

From here or from there. Without walls. Without Borders. With no exclusion ”
