Damián Ortega´s first exhibition in Spain
On May 5, was inaugurated the exhibition El cohete y el abismo by mexican artista Damina Ortega at Parque del Retiro Crystal Palace.
In his first job in Spain, Damian Ortega (Mexico D.F., 1967) has developed a specific project for the Crystal Palace, incorporating the unique architecture of the historic building in support of its new facility alluding to plastic discourse that characterizes his work. His work explores specific situations as a starting point to establish a critical discourse on economic, aesthetic and political issues of our time.
The work of Damián Ortega has been shown in solo exhibitions in art centers and museums around the world, among which Hangar Bicocca in Milan (2015), the Jumex Museum in Mexico City (2014), the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (2005), Tate Modern in London (2005), the Kunsthalle Basel (2004) or the ICA in Philadelphia (2002). Also his work has been presented at the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and the 27th Bienal de São Paulo (2006).
