BUENOS AIRES ART WEEK CONTINUES AND TURNS ON THE CITY UNTILL SUNDAY
The Art Week in Buenos Aires does not stop surprising. Activities, donations, installations and outdoor screenings are part of the most important week of the Argentine scene. Find out everything there is to do here!
The Art Week Buenos Aires continues and the cultural activity of the city is more exciting than ever. With extensive programming in public spaces, the presence of Art Basel in the Argentine capital, the 28th edition of the emblematic arteBA international artfair and the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI), the city is an art factory.
With some novelties such as the donation of the Lunar Alphabet by Leandro Katz to the National Library of Buenos Aires, the sale of Jorge de la Vega oeuvre –record sale in the arteBA history- and a host of sitespecific installations by artists such as Marie Orensanz or Mariana Telleria in public spaces, the Art Week, managed by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires continues surprising the international audience that walks through the South American city.
For those who walk the streets this afternoon, the programming continues! At 6:00 p.m. in Seeber Park, the main Art Week headquarter, Margarita Paksa’s Communications Cycle continues. The cycle consists of a reconstruction of the Comunicaciones (Communications) installation exhibited in the Experiencias 68 (68’ Experiences) collective exhibition of the emblematic Di Tella Institute. Conceived as a process of participatory artistic production, the installation is a sand cube where the public can see the impressions of a couple silhouettes. On a platform with two players and headphones, the audience can listen to a record that reproduces the performance record based on sound and visual signs.
At 6:30 p.m., within the framework of conferences developed by Art Basel Cities -both in Seeber Park and arteBA artfair-, the Master Class on Gender Issues in Contemporary Art will be held in the park. The talk will be directed by the writer Estrella de Diego and the art critic and director of BIENALSUR Diana Wechsler. Each one, from its specialization, will approach the current landscape of contemporary art focusing on how gender issues have shaped artistic production but also institutional and critical practices.
Finally, at 9:00 pm, the BAFICI team will screen the film La herida y el cuchillo (Notas para un film sobre Emilio García Wehbi), directed by Miguel Zeballos. The film is a documentary about the biography and essay that follows the creative process of the last five years of the playwright Emilio García Wehbi. In parallel, a series of fiction scenes, represented in performances and installations, dialogue with the poetics of one of the creators of The peripheral of objects.
