BAphoto PRESENTS LIVETALK #02: COLLECTION DIALOGUES WITH JOSÉ LUIS LORENZO

Given the expansion of the Covid-19 and the global pandemic situation, BAphoto- the most important Latin American art fair specialized in photography- transforms for the first time its annual fair into a special online edition open to the international community. Thus, BAphoto Live was created, a virtual space dedicated to the promotion, circulation and commercialization of Latin American photographic art. A platform designed according to current circumstances, offering the public a specific selection of works from 40 art galleries from different regions and trajectories.

José Luis Lorenzo was born in 1963 in the city of Córdoba, where he lives and works. Architect, owner of the Lorenzo y Asociados Arquitectos studio; He is President of the Friends of the Caraffa Museum Association and member of the Board of the Pro Arte Córdoba Foundation, President of DINA (Associated National Designers), and since 2014 member of the LAAC (Latin American Acquisitions Committee) of the Tate Modern in London.

The architect José Luis Lorenzo began - perhaps without knowing it - collecting works of art more than twenty years ago. Its beginning, thanks to small-format works and classic Cordovan consecrated works, was soon intercepted by contemporary art: a new and then unknown world invited him almost by chance to turn the course of his passion.

His constant search and enthusiasm for art lead him to visit different exhibition spaces, both national and international, and to study the subject in depth; firm dedication that is reflected in the constant growth and eclecticism of his collection, which today brings together hundreds of pieces that offer us a story - always under construction - on various disciplines.

Starting in 2005, he discovered a certain predilection for photography, acquiring contemporary pieces at first, to later add "vintage" photographic objects among his latest acquisitions. With the only requirement of personal taste and enjoyment when acquiring a new work, José Luis considers the collective delight of his own collection a true added value, a reflection that has materialized in numerous exhibitions in public institutions in his hometown and other Argentinean provinces, together with talks and dissertations as an invitation to enjoyment or, perhaps, with the desire to awaken in others the same passion that surrounds him day by day.

Gabriel Valansi lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Visual artist and photographer, Valansi uses various mediums of expression such as the video, installation and photography. He studied Physics and Engineering. He has represented Argentina in several international biennials such as Ushuaia (2001), La Habana (2012 and 2003). He has been awarded with prices and received many accolades such as Artist of the year, by the Argentine Association of Art Critics (2001), Best multimedia exhibition award by the Argentine Association of Art Critics (2005), and The OSDE Foundation Award for Visual Arts (2005). He has been featured in important leading national and internationals publications. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Argentina, Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Israel, Switzerland, United States, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay, among others. Today his work is part of important national and international collections such as Museum of Modern Arts of Buenos Aires – MAMBA (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Museum of Contemporary Arts of Rosario – MACRO (Rosario, Buenos Aires), Emilio Caraffa Museum – MEC (Córdoba, Argentina), Museum of Fine Arts – MFAH (Houston, United States), Bibliothèque Nationale (Paris, France), Museum of Modern Art (San Pablo, Brazil), Museum of Modern Art (Río de Janeiro, Brazil) and Casa de las Américas (La Habana) among others.
