AN ANTHOLOGY OF ALFREDO JAAR IN TOKYO
You and Me and the Others brings together historical works and a newly commissioned production for the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, as part of an extensive program of activities by the artist in Japan.
You and Me and the Others, an anthology dedicated to the work of the Chilean artist based in New York Alfredo Jaar, opened last January at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. The exhibition spans approximately five decades of production and features a large-scale installation, representative works from the early stages of his career, and a new piece specially commissioned for the occasion.
The show includes a new work titled Tomorrow is another day, commissioned specifically to address the relationship between the United States and Japan. As reported by The Japan Times, during a press preview the artist stated that Japan maintains a relationship of “dependence” with the United States and noted that recent statements within Japan’s political sphere have raised the possibility of greater independence from the country.

The exhibition is accompanied by a program of activities in the city, including lectures and other presentations. At the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, the exhibition Prix Pictet: Storm brings together the shortlisted artists of the 11th edition of the international prize dedicated to photography and sustainability, of which Jaar was the winner.
Also in Tokyo, Jaar’s works can be seen at SCAI Piramide in a duo exhibition with Japanese artist Reijiro Wada, as well as in a group show at Kenji Taki Gallery.
You and Me and the Others will be on view through March 29, 2026.
