Running through February 5th, 2021, “Human Dimensions” features works from nearly thirty Latin American artists spanning the entirety of MIFA Gallery’s expansive exhibition space. The group exhibition highlights a mixture of emerging and highly-recognized Latin American artists for whom the human figure plays an integral role.

“HUMAN DIMENSIONS IN LATIN AMERICAN ART” EXHIBITION AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL FINE ARTS GALLERY

Human representation has existed since the very origins of painting, when they decorated the walls of caves tens of thousands of years ago; and its intention to transmit messages, self-recognition, reading the environment and symbolic charge, survives even today in the age of selfies. From that remote past the intention of a painted figure goes far beyond the simple capture of the image or the mechanical reproduction of what is in front of the observer.

A renewed interest in traditional, skill-based artistic techniques created demand for schools, academies, and communities, which, in turn, propelled this interest into an established movement that now encompasses millions of followers and spans five continents. Curated by Darío Ortiz, “Human Dimensions” demonstrates the undeniable role played by Latin American artists within this crescendoing revival.

The dialogue formed by the works of Human Dimensions in Latin American Art is between the proposals of artists from different countries and generations, showing how, from different forms of representation, they have appropriated that human being as a measure of all things, vindicating that ancient precept of rebirth, until it becomes the perfect Device with the ability to capture, motivate responses and interact with the observer.

Participating artists include prominent figures in Latin American art such as Fernando Botero, Guillermo Muñoz Verá, Roberto Cortázar, and curator Darío Ortiz, as well as Julio Larraz, Cesar Santos, Ramiro Sanchez, Pablo Santibañez, Ofelia Andrades, Paulina Jaimes, Felipe Cifuentes, Eivar Moya, Andrés Alarcón, Alfonso Álvarez, Germán Tellez, Hernán Sosa, Andrés Kal, Carlos Martínez León, Alonso Luis Alayo, Milixa Morón, Sonia Hidaldo, Teresa Uribe, Joel Corrales, Raffaella Freyre, Sofía Zuluaga, Elkin Cañas, Nicolás Beltrán, Ermilo Espinosa, and Angie Da Vega.

Miami International Fine Arts was founded by artists Elkin Cañas, Milixa Morón, and Teresa Uribe in 2019. MIFA Gallery is an exhibition space which provides a nexus for contemporary representational art to be shown, discussed, explored, and collected, serving not only South Florida, but Latin America, as well. It adapts to and reflects Miami’s multiculturalism and our contemporary times.
