The exhibition by Mexican artist Fernanda del Barrio in Madrid explores the instability of territory through installation, photography, and archival practices, proposing ways of inhabiting space rooted in the body, the ephemeral, and its relationship with the surrounding environment.

Ejercicios para construir un territorio is the solo exhibition by Fernanda del Barrio (Mexico City, Mexico, 1995) presented at the Madrid gallery E Ciento Veinte. The show is framed as part of an ongoing investigation into territory understood not as a fixed location, but as a shifting condition where the poetic and the corporeal can emerge and be tested.
Drawing from the experience of displacement as a defining condition, the artist questions the idea of home as a stable and permanent structure. In response, she develops ephemeral forms of shelter that rely on gesture, repetition, and bodily presence. The works in the exhibition articulate spatial situations through subtle installations alongside photographic documentation of performative actions.

These constructions of minimal and temporary refuge arise through direct interaction with the environment, where spatial awareness and embodied action become central. Rather than presenting architecture as permanence, the work proposes it as process: fragile, contingent, and continually in formation. The exhibition thus moves beyond physical structure toward an emotional and experiential understanding of inhabiting space, where dwelling does not imply ownership or domination, but attentiveness, vulnerability, and reconstruction.
