PINTA PArC: TRADITION AND PRESENT IN PERFECT SYNCHRONY

The eleventh edition of Pinta PArC –the official contemporary art fair in Peru– will be held from April 24 to 28. It is the most attractive international cultural event in the region, and a window to learn how Peru intertwines its rich history with the most current influences of contemporary art.

PINTA PArC: TRADITION AND PRESENT IN PERFECT SYNCHRONY

Located in the emblematic Casa Prado in the heart of Miraflores, Lima, Pinta PArC reaffirms the appreciation and promotion of the country's cultural heritage, while seeking to enhance tradition by introducing contemporary languages in a unique heritage building.

The fair features several characteristic sections and special projects, a cycle of conversations to address current debates, a circuit of guided tours that invite visitors to explore the fair, and the Book Vivant bookstore with special programming. It also invites the local community to participate in interactive events and artistic interventions.

The Main Section presents more than forty galleries from around the world, selected for the quality and innovation of their proposals. In this edition, more than 200 artists from the region will participate to showcase the diversity and excellence of Latin American artistic production.

The NEXT section will be present once again under the curatorship of Florencia Portocarrero, bringing together six galleries that focus on six emerging artists committed to their context and artistic experimentation. In addition, as a new feature of this edition, the RADAR section will be presented –curated by Florencia Battiti– which seeks to highlight a group of artistic productions that, through different languages and media, focus on the capacity of art to reeducate our perception in relation to our environment, raise awareness about the care of natural resources and highlight ancestral practices and knowledge in the face of the imminent crisis of our planet.

Among the Special Projects stands the Artista Homenaje, curated by Sharon Lerner, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of Jorge Eduardo Eielson's birth with works that highlight the artist's B-side. Site-Specific at Casa Prado –curated by Giuliana Vidarte– brings together works that rethink historical discourses, recover traditional knowledge and make visible the artistic practices of different communities. Despertar el polvo dormido de sus ancestros (Awakening the dormant dust of their ancestors) establishes connections between creators who identify themselves as traditional artists, artisans, visual artists, contemporary plastic artists, designers, among others.

In addition, the fair features Jardín de Esculturas –curated by Max Hernández Calvo– and Video Project –curated by Irene Gelfman–. Jardín de Esculturas is a space to explore the relationship between sculpture, architecture and green areas. Video Project is the transversal section of all the fairs that focuses exclusively on proposals that work with the moving image. For this edition of Pinta PArC, the projects presented will revolve around the following themes: ancestral practices, community work, Amazonia and nature.

Finally, FORO –coordinated by Giuliana Vidarte– is a series of conversations to discuss current issues and problems in contemporary art. The review of experiences in artistic creation, work in museums and collections, production of exhibitions and publications are the starting point to establish exchanges that contribute to the strengthening of dialogue and collaboration networks for Latin American contemporary visual arts.

The discussion will include the participation of: María Eugenia Yllia, Art History, curator and museologist, Gerardo Castillo, Director of the Doctorate in Anthropology at the PUCP and of the study group The City in the Amazon, Antonio Villa, Constitución Galería, Bernardo Montoya, Salón Comunal, Guido Yannito, Remota Galería, Juan Diego Tobalina, Enhorabuena, Beatriz Lemos, Coordinating Curator at the Inhotim Institute, Sadith Silvano, Traditional visual artist and activist leader of the Shipibo-konibo people, Gabriela Germaná, PhD in Art History and Criticism and independent curator, Alejandra Ortiz de Zevallos, artist, Ricardo Wiesse, artist, Laura Hakel, Curator of the Collection and Artistic Projects at the Ama Amoedo Foundation and ISLAA Curatorial Fellow at the New Museum, María del Pilar Riofrío, Director of the Central Museum, the Museum Network of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, among others.
