Fundación Botín Launches a Call

for its Visual Arts Grant and the Art Workshop 2011

Fundación Botín, a Spanish institution created in 1964, launches a call for a new edition of the Visual Arts Grants and the Art Workshop, to be directed by Paul Graham. The call is international in both cases.

The Visual Arts Grants are aids for education, research and personal project end up with the organization of an exhibition at the venue of the Foundation in Santander and the edition of a catalogue. The call is open to individuals of any nationality with the single requirement of being between the ages of 23-40 for the education grants.

The Paul Graham Workshop will be held between July 4th and 15th 2011, at the Villa Iris space, in the coastal city of Santander, in northern Spain.

Applicants must be experienced in photography, and have demonstrated a commitment and knowledge of the medium over many years. This is not a workshop for beginners.

The workshop will deal with photography and the world – with making images from life as-it-happens, with the visual language of seeing, perceiving the world and our place within it. Paul Graham will select a maximum of 15 alumni and the workshop will be conducted in English.

Paul Graham is a British born photographic artist whose work over the past 30 years has operated at the point where the artistic and documentary aspects of photography coalesce. He has exhibited widely, including a solo show at MOMA, New York, in 2009, and published 12 books, including 2 surveys by Steidl and Phaidon. He is a senior critic at Yale University MFA in photography, and lives in New York City.

Fundación Botín will present a solo show of the artist in its Santander venue during the fall of 2011.
