CCEMiami Presents its Lineup for Arteamericas 2011

A carefully selected roster of artists from Spain and Latin America with mediums that range from a custom made glass installation to photography and sculpture.

Miami, FL – Arteamericas 2011 is right around the corner and CCEMiami is wrapping up the final details of its presence at the prestigious Miami Beach fair as well as anticipating the roster of artist that will be featured at the Center’s stand #902 this year, curated by local gallerist Nina Torres. Arteamericas, is considered the premier art fair of art from Latin America is returning for its ninth installment in 2011 and it will showcase the latest trends in paintings, sculpture and multimedia.

Artwork by the following artists will be featured at CCEMiami’s stand this year: Anna Balboa, Ana Ochoa, Ignacio Barrios, Isabel Brinck, Rocío Granados, Silvia Martínez, Natalia Reparaz and Javier Velasco.

About the artists:

Anna Balboa studied art in Barcelona. She currently lives in Miami. She uses unique iconic elements in her work, a world of connexions that sometimes represents the polarity between man and woman. She constructs objects in vertical orientation with the objective of securing new secret meanings.

Ana Ochoa was born in La Rioja, Spain and graduated in Journalism at Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, where she resided for 14 years. She developed her career in TV becoming a communication teacher. She developed her artistic career after moving to Buenos Aires, where she also resided for a decade. She now lives in Miami Beach where she created "Suite Miami” that has been exhibited in several countries in Central and South America.

Ignacio Barrios was born in Geneva in 1989. His relationship with the camera started when he was finishing high shcool. He studied photography at Madrid’s EFTI and in Havana’s Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión, San Antonio de los Baños. He has travelled with great photography masters such as Enrique Segarra and Cristina Garcia Rodero, as well as José Alberto Figueroa. He is currently completing his Audiovisual Studies Degree in Madrid.

Isabel Brick is a Chilean artista with a strong background as a graphic designer that has been painting since 1992. Her first solo show took place in Chile in 2002 under the name of “En Vivo” (Live) and was made of 24 oil and acrylic pieces dedicated to Eve. She resides en Miami since 2003 working under the artistic direction of Jaime Ferrer.

Natalia Reparaz studied advertising in Spain and at Parsons NY, as well as sculpture at New World School of the Arts in Miami, becoming part of the movement known as “movida madrileña” thanks to an underground comic that would portray her gay friends. Her first solo show was in 2000 where she exhibited portraits of her friends.

Rocio Granados was born in Madrid and moved to Miami in 1980. She works with a combination of shapes, techiques and colors that render an unlimited freedom of expression. She has been part of numerous collective shows.

Silvia Martinez is know by her artistic name “Kuti” and was born in Madrid in 1967. She has exhibited her work in Madrid, New York and Miami, where she currently resides. She belongs to a family of artists and in her work she transmits the uniqueness of characters, landscapes and corners that she has been collecting in her tireless search for the hidden and different.

Javier Velasco was born in Cadiz, Spain. He lived in Mexico for several years and he now resides en Spain. He has been part of ARCO, Spain’s foremost art fair since 1999 and his work is part of the collection of the Museo Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Reina Sofía. He has been part of the collective show The Real Royal Trip in P.S.1 MoMA in New York in 2004.

This group of artist has been carefully crafted to represent a cutting edge vision of the latest trends in Spanish and Latin American art.

The centerpiece of the show will be created by artist Javier Velasco (La Línea de la Concepción, Spain, 1963) and will present a black glass installation entitled "Ramas" (Branches), an allegory to the ephimeral that will put over the audience's head an ethereal forest of ramifications that could be seen but not touched due to an elevation of 10 ft. The fragility and beauty of coral is under constant attack by means of manking and this piece is a tribute to conservation.

Activities at the Cultural Center of Spain are sponsored by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation to the Development (AECID), Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
