Reviews - Eduardo Stupía
The recognized and intimate calligraphy in Eduardo Stupía´s (Buenos Aires, 1951) drawings on paper changes and expands to become a series of paintings on canvas rendered with elegant and inspired strokes. The drawings, executed in India ink, charcoal, gouache or pastel, are combinations of dancing lines, indentations and abstractions. The series on display, which enables the viewer to appreciate how much graphic symbols and painting have in common, includes works in which marks turn into blots, adopting an intermediate path between more or less imperceptible signs and spatial arrangements.
On the other hand, in the paintings and inks on canvas one may see the gradation of the strokes and the dissolution of the lines, transformed into color and light. The viewer will not be able to recognize any distinct meaning in these works, which, however, summon to think about sound and fury, the silence and quiet of unexpected landscapes, real or invented; landscapes of the soul.
