Portugal Tropical in Miami

The curators Alda Galsterer and Verónica de Mello, take the exhibition “Portugal Tropical” to the city of Miami from June to Semptember 2016. A reflection on the tropical concept in the work of three Portuguese artists, following a lean, sensual and organic line of a modern and multicultural Portugal.

Portugal Tropical in Miami

This group exhibition features over 60 works of Pedro Calapez, Maria Ana Vasco Costa and Mónica de Miranda, three artists that represent three different generations of artists and experiences. These artists exhibit their work for the first time in Miami, in a “reading of the exotic” that is associated with the tropical concept.

The exhibition consists of paintings with a large color palette, embroidered photographs of African landscapes and ceramic sculptures, with a dense tactile quality. The exhibition opens to the public on June 9, being near to June 10 the Day of Portugal, as well as the Day of Luis de Camões and the Portuguese communities, it will be hosted by Merzbau Gallery, one of the most important galleries of contemporary art in the flourishing area of the city of Miami.
